mach...Don't advance it any more than a couple degrees to start. It is better to have too little timing than too much.
Too little timing will result in a slight power loss. Too much timing can result in detonation and maybe a broken ring or a hole in a piston (and a BIG power loss).
Mine ran best at 5 degrees advanced, so I set it at 4 degrees advanced to be safe.
Best way to set it is on a dyno. -ZXtra

The most important thing to do is us lock tight. I am spot welding mine on so I dont burn up another motor on NOS.

well spoken Fastestr1....Now, let's think about a new name. It's good to see kids grow up to become Men......R1=kid / zx12=Man

Yes, I am becoming a man thanks to mentors like you. And the R1 is stolen and gone so a new name is in order, now for a name? ????

zxtra,is your 5 deg.advance on a stock bike with just pipe and p.c?i went 2.5 and cant tell a bit of difference.this timing and electronic stuff like bike sensors ,computers always had me at a loss, what is the stock setting?is going 2.5 meaning 2.5 degrees more than stock?my bike seems to not pull as hard as it did,its not too bad,but noticable at 2.5.which way should i go now?theres no other symptoms, but a little loss in pull.

mach...My 12 is even stocker than that! Factory exhaust (slight mods), no P.C., K+N's, no kleen air, heat blanket, red paint, 166 H.P.
Did you rotate the outside ring on the advancer clockwise to advance? Each mark is 5 degrees.
When I installed mine I noticed better throttle response and believe it or not better gas mileage.
It really is better to get it set on a dyno. I picked up 2.8 H.P. but results among the members has varied. Some even say theirs ran best at the stock 0 setting. The dyno will tell you. -ZXtra

fastestr1.....how about "Driven" since you won't stop until you set the track record for non-wheelie bared bike :-)
When are you giving me the advancer to weld???

Tomorrow is a good day how about for you? And you are right about the track record, but I want us the go to a 60" wheel base class. So it is more rider and not just who has the money. I also saw my RC 1/10 scale nitro rail car can't wait to race it in Jan 03. As for the name driven is a good start.

If you have a pciiir then you don't need the advancer right? Maybe it would be worth installing an advancer only and leaving the stock map? Cheaper. I'm just looking for cheap horsepower.

With all the problems people are having with the pc3r it might be better.

If u want cheap, then just do what lots of people did before the advancers came out. Slot the pickup coil and slide it to advance the timing that way. I ran mine for a long time that way with nary a problem.
