1290 KIT
TO ANYONE RUNNING A STROKER CRANK WITH STOCK BORE. HOW RELIABLE AND STREETABLE? ANY HEATING ISSUES? DOES IT OFFER BUSA LIKE LOWEND TORQUE? WHAT KIND OF TORQUE DOES IT MAKE AND HOW MUCH OF AN INVESTMENT WAS IT. I'D LIKE TO KEEP THE STOCK BORE FOR MORE RELIABILITY. THE 1270 KITS NICE BUT I JUST WANT SOME MORE LOW END. THANKS 12SPEED

I think the 1290 is the SBM kit. Muzzy Billet Big Block is 1317 ---> http://www.muzzys.com/ZX-12_87mm/index.html

I've been told by LEES PERFORMANCE that the 1290 is the most streetable. They'll be doing the installation . I was just trying to get
a feel for what too expect. They also suggested getting the muzzy/falicon clutch hub. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks VINCE. I'm only 3 hours from the D.C. Area, just south of richmond.

Size of the bore isn't going to affect reliability. However doing a crankshaft might unless you're an experienced engine builder. I have the original series of falicon welded 59.4mm stroke crankshaft in my bike which is approximately +4mm vs. stock and this came from Muzzys and was installed by Lee's Performance. Several hundred drag strip runs +/- 5000 street miles on the new engine and many +/- 200mph runs at Maxton and knock-on-wood so far no issues after a full season. It runs great on the street and the track. I can recommend Lee's for quality and reliability based on my experience.
I would recommend if you want the ultimate combination get the new billet 60mm crankshaft (+4.6mm stroke) and the 87mm billet "bigblock" from Muzzys (+4mm overbore). This would yield 1427cc probably about as big as you can get in a streetable version and water cooled.
If you want a good $ to hp ratio just get the Muzzy 1270 kit and most people can install themselves. Or do whatever Lee tells you to do based on your budget $ because he knows his shit! Don't forget about the extras like cams; tuning; etc.

I just got my 1290 together, Only have 300miles on it.
Been to the track once, Not impressed, but my tune-up is way off I think.
I need a map for my bike.
3mm big-bore
intake cam on exhaust
and port work
Bike ran same mph as before and about same e.t.
$2,700 And I did it myself.
Not giving up just need to fine tune I hope.

300 miles on it and already running it hard? You might want to give it a few miles for break in.

Yea couldn't wait I broke the bike in at the track new,
Best on stk motor is
9:36@149mph stk arm. When I pulled the top end she looked like new.
4,700mi. mostly 1/4 at a time (9 clutches later.)
It's a Lee's head job. I got everything from him.

I dynoed my bike with 11 miles on it, on the way home from the dealership. Then raced it 1/4mi the following weekend with 300mi on it. THATS "breaking it in"
Ninjafreek try the n/a map on my site might help your bike, worth a try.

Thanks dude I'll give it a try.
I'm sure I'll get it, it just takes a while. Lee sent me a map with +8 degrees of advance. I ran my best #'s on stk motor with no advance. Backed that down and mph can up.

Lots of race engines are not broken in. That said they don't last as long as non broke in engines. The factory teams as well as well funded privateers run them in on an engine dyno. It doesn't seem to much to ask after spending the kind of dollars a guy spends on high performance mods. I can also tell you that most of the race engines that are broken in at the race track typically consume more oil then their counterparts.

The stock intake cam is bigger than the exhaust cam. The o.e. cams are half the price of weld-ups. Not really sure how hp is to be gained with either. Probably not a whole lot with either. I run one weld up on the intake and a stock intake on the exhaust.
300 miles should be more than adequate of a break in for the rings and pistons. Remember, his bottom end wasn't touched.
If I were to go through the trouble of installing a different crank, I'd dang sure be putting in some bigger pistons. I don't think a weld up crank will be as reliable as a big bore job myself although I don't think it's that risky either. If you're gonna go big, GO BIG!
