What cams?

I am going to start shopping for engine parts to make my 12 a little more powerful this winter. I want to get the head ported and polished, crank balanced and lightened and 1mm bigger valves, 13.5:1 high compression pistons and a set of cams. I am looking at a set of bst carbon rims for it also if anyone has any info on wheather these are a good investment.

talk to sal at http://www.aceperformanceracing.com he can point you in the right direction. he sells all the parts and does all the porting and headwork. he is the best of the best when it comes to zx12r performance.

I have a set and they are very nice. But, realistically, you will get far more straight line performance spending your money in the engine.

What size motor are you building?

I have an extra head with bronze guides, 1mm OS ss int & exh valves, ported and polished, Carpenter springs, Ti retainers. Throats are set up for stock bore or 1270/1290.

I bought it to have Competition CNC do an experimental epoxy port head for my 1427 (bigger throats and secret stuff), but it's in such beautiful shape, i'm gonna have my head guy freshen up all seats and sell it.

Thanks guys, I will start looking at some of those links, I was looking at a web cam but wasnt real happy with the attitude I got when I talked to them. I want to keep the stock cc, dont want to go bigger bore. As far as the rims, I was looking at those for less gyroscopic mass, to make the bike feel lighter when leaning. What kind of price are looking for on the head entropy? this will be a tax time purchase, just want to get everything in line so when it is time to buy, I can.

one other question, anyone had their crank balance? did you have to send in the rods and pistons or did they just balance the crank by itsself? I know in order to do it right everything connected to it needs to be taken into account but everything I have read from places that do it say nothing about including piston or rod weights.

From a handling perspective, the rims are fantastic. They make the bike turn much better, imo. My bike is extended 6" and turns very, very easily. Not like a truck as it did with stock rims.

But, I'm not a roadracer...so that's just my .02.

thats what I wanted to know, just wanted to make the bike feel more like 600 in curves. I dont race on a strip or street, but I want the bike to feel planted no matter where it is.

Where I really noticed how the steering is quickened is in the shutdown at Maxton. At 180+ mph a slight touch on the bars and the bike changes lines quick! The first time it was a little startling...especially considering my extended wheelbase.

I bet, this is the first bike I have owned over a 600, it just feels like changing lanes on the road takes forever and once passing someone it takes a distance to get it to come back. I am gong to eliminate the counter balancer and get the crank lightened also. need to start looking at other places to lose some weight.

For some ideas on weight loss, you can check my ZX-14 build thread:

http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=27&TID=40269&set_time=

My bike is nearly 85 lbs. lighter than stock now. Some of it may not apply to you, since my bike is primarily for racing.

will do, as long as it doesnt affect carrying a passenger I will try about anything, the wife likes to ride along so I need the rear of the bike to be able to haul a passenger.

Wheels and exhaust would likely be your best bet for a street bike that you are going to carry passengers on. If the bike is going see a lof of exposure to the elements, you might consider forged aluminum rims.

No you dont need anything except the flywheel. Inline 4 cyl crankshafts are neutral balanced but you should balance the pistons and rods as well.
