problem with throttle position sensor

Has anyone had this problem? I took my bikes to KWS in charleston for Dyno work. While re-mapping the ZX-12 on tuning link Kevin found the throttle position sensor would not hold its calibration. He reset the 100% cal several times. While attempting to re-map at 100% on tuning link the throttle position indication would repeatedly drop below 98% during the run and abort the run. He re-checked the throttle position indication on a standard (non tuning link) run and the 100% indication would start to drop above 5000 rpm every time. We could find nothing wrong with the wiring plug connector at the sensor. Has anyone had a problem with theses sensors? I checked with a dealer and Kawasaki doesn't sell the sensor, you have to buy the whole damn throttle assembly for over $1000.00 to get a new sensor.

I had a similar sounding problem but it went away when I changed out the power commander. And it happened exactly in the range you mentioned. A new Power Commander and the problem stopped. Don't know if that is part of your problem but is sure was mine.

Yes Ive had that problem with my PC3r. Once I worked out a map I like in my bike, I just kinda set it and forget it. Ive been having great luck with it, no problems that you all complain about such as intermittent idle, hard starting, backfiring. (knock on wood) I hope it hangs in there cause my PC3r is old. Its the model that has the extra ground wire making it a true PC3r but its so old it wont upload maps unless the bike is running, sometimes, and other times it will.

Oh yeah, there wont be much difference in the map between 98% and 100%.....mine would be real far off sometimes like 515% at WOT (non running) and would read like 55% at 0 throttle, yet the bike was not running bad so it may just be a software glitch.

I have an early model PC-3 not the PC-3R. I have not had any problems with it up to now. We didn't notice a problem with the throttle position indication changing at 100% throttle position when we ran baseline runs. This was my first experience with tuning link which is what showed us the problem. If the throttle position indication varies more than 2% from the target tuning link aborts the run.
Kevin had compleated all the other runs at lower throttle positions without a problem. The tuning link would not complete a 100% run due to the indication repeatedy dropping below 98% during the run. We had a problem getting the throttle position calibrated at 100% before the runs. The calibration had to be reset repeatedly to get it consistent at 100%. What we should have done was monitored the sensor with a good high impedence digital meter to determine if the output was changing during a 100% run. I will try this on a street run to see if the output is changing to try and seperate problems with the sensor, or the power commander. Thanks for the input, as always it was helpful.

wide open throttle...........

maybe doug can comment on this

i have found thru careful observation
even in tuning hi perf EFI cars

what one might consider wide open throttle
slides all the way up......... buttrerlys all the way open etc
is actually less than !00%

am quite certain it doesnt effect the actuall running of the engine
at WOT

just an observation
comments
other observations welcomed
