Well Put Y2K
quote:Jason, I usually dont chime in on pipe posts anymore but you did set up a good deal for me on the damper so... personally I wouldnt buy a pipe that doesnt fit right and melts the plastic. Nor would I buy a four into one for the street. If you are going to be doing a lot of dyno testing I wouldnt buy a carbon can either. If you want to wrap the pipe then dont buy a TI pipe.
I've seen the serpent, the Akra, Muzzy etc. And from the dyno testing I've seen The Yosh duplex race has the best power below 6000 (muzzy is close). And it can produce 181 hp up top. It fits, its middle of the road price wise, and its not as loud as most other pipes even with the "race" can on it. It comes polished like a mirror and is very light with a polished stainless sleeve for the can.
Give it a look before you buy.
I've ridden 12s with Akros and Muzzy pipes and they are fine up top, but pale in comparison to the midrange of the Yosh Duplex. When I piped my bike I didn't want to give any low rpm wheel hoisting ability up, nor did I want a pipe that fell off up top. I was VERY impressed with my bike after I installed the Duplex Race System. (SS Ti) The thing looks great, beautiful welds, and has a nice growl that seems to only get better. Anyone that has ridden with me knows I'm a big guy so it takes some good power to pull my big ass. My bike will tear out of corners like mad, laying darkies like a MF. Wheelies are a given. Ask Harry, Otis, Lucky, or Bart 'bout Little Red. She will rip it up on exit. Otis has the Yosh Duplex Race System as well, and loves it. Like I've said, I've ridden Muzzy and Akro piped 12s and they are wicked. But they just don't have the gonads in the midrange like the Yosh. Go with what you like,I don't think there is a bad pipe out there when it comes to piping a 12. They really wake up after you pipe them.
Personally I couldn't be happier with my selection. I've always had good luck out of Yoshimura's products.

What we're dealin' with here is a complete lack of respect for the law.
My 1361 makes right at 210 hp SAE (216 standard) with a TiForce on it and it idles. Pyscho is making 202 with his 1270 kit and a TiForce. These are tough numbers to beat. And the bike doesn't hunt, And you don't have to trim or cut the fairings or add heat shielding. They fit. I have put TiForce pipes on R6's,R1's, ZX12's, GSXR600,750 and 1000's. They fit, they make power and they idle! And the 12's pipe look pretty figgin nice with the two pipes running to the can. Cut your stock exhaust open and you will find the mid pipe that appears to be a single pipe is infact divided down the middle. The stock 12 exhaust is a 4 into 2.

the good news is that we wont have to answer this question ever again, well at least for a few months, well maybe. next time anyone asks about pipes, we can just refer them to this thread and that will be that. unless of course vincenthill decides that he like the yosh, then we are all fucked.
Ah... but guess what? Just to confuse you even more... these numbers don't mean diddly! Yep, that's right. If you surveyed everyone on the forums, the above percentage splits would probably be close to what you have in the above sampling.
To make matters worse, for every impressive dyno run from one brand of pipe, I assure you, it can be countered with an equally impressive chart from another brand. At the first Gap gathering harryzx12's akro took the top of the "stock" (PCIII, filters, timing advancer) bikes with a 180/100. His charts showed very nice and smooth HP and torque curves. At the very next Gap gathering, less then 4 months later, DaveinDaytona's '00 with a Muzzy did a 181/101 and with equally nice and smooth HP and torque curves. Lucky's 1270 with a Muzzy has done over 207.
So... in my humble POSER opinion, there should be just a few bearing factors that guide you in your choice.
1. You wallet - the more you spend on your pipe, the less you have to spend on other stuff.
2. The sound - Muzzy's might be the loudest, but they do offer a "quite" version.
3. The fit - some might fit better then others, but if great care is taken during installation, I think you'll find that any "horror stories" are way over rated. I didn't melt any plastic with my Muzzy until the SECOND time I caught my bike on fire (again, I refuse to go into detail of the circumstances of these "events" on the grounds it will make me look even more stupid then I do already).
4. The appearance - then again, if your looking at your pipe, that just means your not riding your bike. If the opinions of others affect your choice, your more of a poser then me (which I sincerely doubt).
Notice I didn't mention "performance". Since each 12R has it's own characteristics, to compare via dyno numbers or even "seat of the leathers" feel is far too subjective to come to any conclusion of which pipe is the best.

ya know, for a bunch of people who sigh & complain every time this topic comes up, we sure are happy to pipe in with our opinions, along with the mandatory "i'm not gonna answer this again", of course

fit.......i dunno, this is one of the things i'm trying to find out
PERFORMANCE...this is the very thing i am looking to find out. cause there is a dyno sheet for everyone of these that says they are better than the others. im looking for some real world advice; and by the way, i am getting it....thank you all sincerely. this might be the only real big purchase i ever make on this bike so i want to get it right. oh and freek, that was funny.

Akropovic is our best seller and Muzzy is a second. Either way we got the best deals on them. Would anyone be intetrested in a group buy on either?
My vote--Akrpovic

Uh-oh! I don't think we can count Doug's vote - he spelled Akrapovic wrong in the previous post --- TWICE!! Maybe he's selling cheap knock-offs of the Akrapovic?
Seriously, my vote probably doesn't count since the Yosh Duplex is the only pipe I've ever run on the 12R and I don't have anything to compare it to. But I DO like it!! Come to think of it, many of us are in that same boat.

I hope not!! I just ordered my acro from Doug. I ordered his special. It left Greensboro, NC yesterday morning. I'm chomping at the bit waiting for it.
Basically, I was in the same boat as you, Jason. I eventually couldn't get Vincent's comments out of my head. He said that the fit and finish of the acro setup was by far the best. The extra couple of horsepower I would get from the hindle probably won't be noticeable or necessary for me anyway. (I'll only be racing brackets anyway.) But, when I take a look at the bike every day, I'll notice the fit & finish of the pipe.
