Off topic (sort of)...my new bike.

Been trying to buy this from a friend for about 6 years...he finally gave in and sold it to me (he needed some money). What do you guys think? I know it's not as fast as my 12R, but it is fun to ride and looks pretty nice for a 1979 model, I think.

I really like the sound of the 6 cylinder.

I like it...how much did you pry it away from him for? I assume it runs as good as it looks.

I had a black 80 bought new. LOVED that bike, but went down 3 separate times trying to do twisties. Great bike, but be careful trying to rail with it!!!

Also, do NOT let it sit for any length of time without running it. I had to rebuild all 6 carbs and buy a new tank due to oxidation... Still I loved that bike.

See if you can find a stock seat. No exactly comfortable, but it looks better (to me).

Cool bike. Looks like new. I can't say that I have seen one that clean in a long time. I remember the original article in Cycle World when they came out. It was said that Honda actually designed the original exhaust to sound something akin to an F4 Phantom on takeoff. Unfortunately the noise and emission standards prevented them from using that exhaust.

I have heard a few of them with some trick exhausts and they sounded pretty damn wicked!

SWEEEET 6!

how is the braking on something with smooth discs and a giant propulsion system like that?

I got rid of my 85 venture royale because it just couldn't stop fast enough to be safe in my opinion.
Especially when comparing the brakes to my previous bike(GPZ-1100).

Thanks guys. I got it for $4K. That is a bit below NADA book. It runs just as good as it looks too.
As for railing on it, thry pushing hard on narrow tires with a spaghetti frame and tiny forks....you don't have to be going fast to make it interesting.
The brakes are about what you'd expect for something 23 years old. They stop you, but it takes a lot of effort at the lever. But I really bought it because I love the way it looks, especially sitting in my garage next to my Valkyrie....that's 2 bikes, 12 cylinders and 2500 cc's between them.

Is it really as cherry as the photo makes it look?

Absolutely, the pics are legit and untouched. Now you see why I have been trying to buy it from him for 6 years.
In addition to being so cherry, it has the European only GP kit (stock Honda parts, but only available in Europe and Canada) consisting of lower bars and rearset pegs. I have all the original bars, pegs, brackets, cables, etc that were switched to install the GP kit.
It just turned over 25,000 miles the other day.
I think the next time there is a local bike show, I'm gonna take both bikes and park, em beside each other.

The sport kit was also sold in the states, I bought one years ago for my 79. Some complete sport kits have recently sold for $1000 plus . Also check out CBXclub.com , lots of info, rallies ect.

23 years later and there is still nothing like the sight of that motor. A good place to check for parts is Tims CBX supply, they also have a basic board for posting but not nearly as nice as this one.
