Hey mrfast.... you said it. The trouble comes from running to much boost. similar problem with NOS. How or why do NOS and turbo bikes blow up. Because the very people that own them want more and getting more is as simple as more boost or more juice. It is kind of like putting the nuts in charge of the nut house. Pretty much all of us will take it to the extreme.

Pretty much every guy or gal on this board with a 12 was impressed by it's performance initially. scarey fast and all that. Pretty soon it got boring being stock. So here comes the performance parts. Then it's fast again for awhile! More parts. Boring again etc. etc. The turbo and NOS options let you keep going with this cycle until detonation!!! This is one nut that has decided to not do that anymore!!

I recently found out that my dyno record @ Seattle Cycle that stood for 2+ years was just shattered by a Busa that beat me by over 43 HP. I found this hard to believe because @ Cycle Barn's Dyno Shootout last Spring, my 12 beat a built 1400 Busa. George claimed that all the guy had done was cams & PCiiir. Anyway, this makes me realize the futility of trying to stay on top, or atleast stay ahead of the Busas.... Although I believe Zhooligan's #'s and testimony on the 1361, I doubt even MVR could find another 43 HP in my 12? So, at this point, my options are NOS, Turbo, resignation, or compromise. To me, even more important than power is predictability, reliability, and controlability. I'm not conviced that a turbo would be all that predictable on the corners, and I still question the long term down the road reliability of a stroker. If money wasn't a factor, I'd probably go with the 1317 on a stroked Billet crank. Right now, I'm leaning towards a 1270 but am still debating with myself. I really appreciate everyone's input and help making this difficult decision. Reading all your posts also makes me realize how much I have to learn.

Entropy, that sounds like a pretty neat combo but Dave at Muzzys suggested that as the piston size increases it naturally becomes heavier and combined with the higher piston speeds that comes with the stroker,it may take its toll on the crank. His suggestion was 1270+stroker or 1317 pistons+ stock crank or 1317 pistons and billet crank. The problem I have with the latter combination is the price for all this including exhaust system is in the turbo price range.

Megabyte, just read your original post and you mentioned track use,if you meant road course,I dont believe the turbo would be an option. Some killer straight speeds though!!!!,at least till she gave up the ghost!

His suggestion was

3) 1317 pistons and billet crank.
.

1) = 1361
2) = 1317
3) = 1427

I'll take #3 Bill...

motor would have been back together yesterday if I hadn't decided to throw in a new oil pump at the last minute. Nothing wrong with the old one but hey, cheap precaution.

WOW!!! You mean they actually weld a forged crank and then grind it back eccentrically??? I'm no materials engineer (just a lowly toolmaker) but I would never weld something that spins @10000 RPM. Ten inches below yer balls.
Buy the one-piece crank. Preferably one that is forged first.
