02 clutch question

A buddy has an 02 that needs a clutch replacement. He pulled it apart today and it does not have any of the chatter rings at the back or middle. Still had the 2 small fibers though. Anyway, we were told by a guy that sells a lot of clutches to just go with putting a 2.0 steel in first without the small fiber and regular stack outward with all 2.0's. This is on a streetbike that will never be raced. Have any of you run this setup and how do you like it? My buddy is a little skittish about it.

why does he want to put a steel plate in first instead of a regular fiber? theres nothing wrong with running 2.0 steels, i do, just make sure the pack height is correct. some guys run the anti chatter rings, and others dont

+1 you just swap out steels to bring the stack height back into spec. assembly order is still the same. if you change the order and a steel is touching another steel, the hub, or the pressure plate, you lose effective surface area and are more prone to slipping

It is a Cycle Concepts DragPack. From what I gathered from him we are to use 11 steels and 11 fibers.

set it up the way the muzzy kit says to, just double check stack height, it may be a bit low

basically the same as oem, only one less steel and fiber because the steels are .4mm thicker each. you may need to double up one steel plate to get proper pack thickness. for example, if its too low, take out a 2.0 and add two 1.6s to act like a 3.2

my lock up requires a pack thickness higher than normal to get the proper clearance from the pressure plate to the snowflake. right now, i have a set of fibers that are worn a bit, but are still well above the service limit. i have 3 sets of the 1.6 pairs and the rest are 2.0s. the pairs are basically like using 3.2s, and they take abuse better than the 2.0s play with pack thickness untill the angle is correct with the puller. it should be around 60 degrees, its in the manual i posted a few days ago
