The clutch question has had soooo many threads devoted to it, a search on "clutch" will return a treasure trove of info.

Basically the stock 00 clutch doesn't get enough oil and additionally is not strong enough for drag racing.

My stock 00 clutch was fine until I started getting in front of the staging lights every weekend and launching at 5000rpm. Then it was a call to Muzzy (clutch kit and billet basket) and many, many calls to Ron Ayers (clutch plates).

Whatever you do...STAY OEM. I would not use Barnetts..even if their clutch pack came with $500 (well may..lol)
The Muzzys kit addresses part of the oiling problem and is priced very well considering what you get. The "basket" is more insurance than anything. A billet basket is typically balanced, which the stocker is not. The stock basket can explode without much provocation, possilbly leading to damage of other parts.

Break down of costs:
Muzzy clutch-~$300
Billet basket-~$350
Labor is approximately 2-4hrs. (if done at the same time)
Piece of mind- Priceless...lol

Oiling IS the issue...........

Billet Basket is a MUST!

Improve oiling by having the Pusher Shaft Cross-Drilled .040 by way of EDM.
Have Stock hub PROPERLY drilled to let oil flow to the plates.
I use the Heavy springs from Schnitz w/ the STOCK fibers and drives.

Over 17,000 mi on set up w/over 200 h.p. on tap (currently) and no blueing of drives what-so-ever. Mobil-1 15w50 helps w/ shift feel.

Phil, Take a small dia. Punch and check the depth of the hollow portion of the pusher. Just behind the Largest Tab (needle bearing rides on) is a gap (@.5 in). The pusher has a machined stopper tab that only allows the pusher to slide into the Input Shaft only so far. Between these two tabs on the pusher in the .5 in. gap is where you EDM Cross drill .040 in. You will see that the pusher is HOLLOW up to this point and will supply a nice spray of oil INSIDE the hub.

Hahaha, keep telling yourself that. My 02 has a much better oil supply than my 00. Still the basket needs to be changed.

If you drill the stock HUB and puller shaft you may not need the muzzy clutch mod kit. The kit is a good deal when you think about you get a new clutch pack and don't have to figure out what to do.
The BILLET BASKET is a must have if you want to play on the 12. Yes you have to return you basket as a core, but they only need the gear, not the basket. I only say that because many wait until they burst the original before getting a billet. Some have paid for this mistake. If you wait until you busrt the basket, the job is MUCH bigger. Rad, pipe, a oil pan must be removed to clean-up the mess "IF" you were lucky enough not to crack the cases, and clutch cover.

The basket is the outer part of the clutch.

The clutch kit is the inner part of the assembly where the plates and fibers mount.

If you are going to pay to have this done, its better to do it all at once as the labor cost will be the same. To install either one, you have to disassemble the clutch. Id say its a 4hr job at worst. 2hr if they know what the heck is going on.
Hope this helps to understand.

TB, I would kill myself if installing a clutch took over an hour.
