oil seal
Anyone ever replace the oil seal in the water pump housing? Every time I lean the bike over on the kickstand,it leaves a puddle. I pulled the fairing and sprayed the motor down with brake cleaner, let it idle for a few minutes and there she is.Coming out the drip hole of the water pump housing.

This definitely looks like it is pressed in before the water seal is installed.

I changed the both seals last year after I found water dripping of the drip hole. This was 1 week before I planned leaving for 9000km trip! It was quite hard to remove the mechanical seal but in the end got it of with minimal damage. Used littele sandpaper (1000grit) to clean the little markings that came when removing. Don't remember having any problem installing the oil seal but don't remember the order they were put in, but looking the manual You have to remove the mechanical seal to gain access to the oil seal. My bike had just short of 100k km before it started dripping so changing both seals when Your down there would be wise and it's not very hard or expensive. KHI uses the same parts on many models including MX line-up so dealer probably has the parts in stock. No have ridden almost 20k km with evertyhing working.

i'm not 100% sure what the pump looks like or how it's assembled, but sad news.. typically when they start to dribble it's a sign of bearing failure. theres 2 roller bearings and 2 seals. between it all is the bearing housing, which has a weep hole.
should oil seep past the mechanical seal at the drive end, it'll piss outta the weep hole.
should the impeller seal leak, it'll piss outta the weep hole.
i've noted alot of pumps fail between 25000-35000 miles.
they're rebuildably if you're crafty tho. the seals can be had thru industrial supply stores, as can the bearings. i spent $32 on rebuilding a $270 pump.
anyway.. when you take it apart, carefully inspect the beearings for play.. shaft wiggle test..
axial/radial movement should be no more that .005"
if shes got a clean bill of health after that, you can basically peel out the seal any way ya can and press the new one in with a socket and hammer (or a legit tool like a seal driver)
if you use a hammer/socket, use a socket thats just barely smallerthan the O.D if the seal.
just like installing bearings.. same deal.
hope that helps a bit!

Were you able to tap the oil seal in with a socket /hammer or did you use a press?

Yes I used the socket/hammer method with little bit of heat gun on the part... Oil seal wasn't no problem, the mechanical seal was little harder but don't remember having problems assembling. Taking the old mechanical seal apart was a little bit of huss..

Oil seal pushed in by just using the fingers and a 1" socket fit nicely around the water seal and tapped in.

95* out so I only do a little at a time.I have a new digi-kill3 shifter I want to put on before I do a test and tune.14.8/1 cr seems to do alright on 93 pump gas on the street although the tank only lasts about 30 miles or so.

I never fooled with the timing yet.It is still on the stock setting with a Muzzy advancer.I believe John @ cycle solutions set the AFR at 13.2 I just put the digi-kill on tonight and it ran for 15 sec and died.Oops, time to go back and check all the connectors.
