Bike Knock over

Well here I am pondering why me. My bike is now 3 weeks old and we have bonded together very nicely. But something is troubling me now.

3 weeks old and already my bike was hit while parked by a 16 year old with no license, who took her moms car without her knowing it. (Not much damage minor scrape front fender left blinker out of socket. I was happy it didn't fall over this was the second week I had the bike. Was Paid for damages.

Now I go over to a friends house to celebrate his birthday I don't like to drink and drive so I found a very nice spot to park my bike for the night. On the sidewalk right next to the end of the building. Perfect spot for one bike.

That morning there was a knock on the door. A neighbor who had come to visit notice I was putting on my leathers to go home she ask if I was riding a black motorcylce. I said yes, she then said it was laying down on the sidewalk. I rushed down stairs and sure enough someone had purposely knock my bike over. This time it didn't fair to well. Upper fairing has a crack in it right after the fairing mount. Left Blinker front and rear wipe out. Clutch lever bend back, looks like the clutch lever the little ball went thru the side plastic. Foot rest bracket snapped and minor scratches.

Is there a message that I'm suppose to be getting here. My mom says there is but I can't figure it out. Should I be saying ok time to sell the bike. Or is this just some kind of coincidence?

Where my bike was park my friend said the security camera may have a clue who knock my bike over and I'm going to check it out. Had to vent.

When I park my bike, I always leave it in gear and make sure that it's rolled forward as far as the chain will allow before I drop my kick stand. I've seen guys drop their kick stand walk away while the bike rolls forward some, the kick stand folds, and the bike falls over. Personally, I would also avoid parking my bike outside overnight.

You got me all scared now...I always park my bike in neutral, turn the front wheel as far as it can, then kickstand the bike down.

So putting it in gear, and rolling it forward as far as the chain allows is the best thing to do??

That is what I do, put it in gear and push it up forward as far as it will go then lock the steering.

'Zactly so! I ride the ferry a lot, and rolling it forward in gear before putting the kickstand down is that lil extra bit of insurance!

"dittos" I have also made it a habit to look for spots that in view of someone to help on the fooling around with your bike. If you are parking your bike outside a lot where the pubic can get to it, the best thing I have found to keep people from bothering it is put a cover on it. While I am sure there are exceptions out there I have never seen a bike with a cover on it messed with. But we have all seen the morons climb on a stragers bike to see how it feels etc.

Things rather come in spurts. I wouldn't take your misfortune as providence telling you something.

Keep ridin', bud!

Next time, see if you can bring your bike into your friend's house.

Do it as Megabyte says. Believe me, whatever extra time it takes to put it in first and roll it forward til the slack is taken up is worth it. Just last week, I experienced one of my two bikes (with the wheel turned as far as it would go and locked in position) fall over and just clip my '94 RX7 passenger fender. I'll never again leave the bike in neutral when parking it.

Park it outside???? oh hell no ! ! ! my only time my 12 spends outside is when i am on it. I even pull it into my hotel when i go to bikeweek or biketoberfest. Not taking the chance some shithead 16 year old is gonna knock mine over. And I always park mine in gear with the steering wheel locked

Wow

I have always left mine in Neutral when parked. I guess I have been lucky that she hasn't fallen over yet. Looks like I need to develope a new habit

First, I've learned to only ride my bike for a short time and then put it away. I NEVER park it anywhere for any amount of time. I make a point to NEVER EVER have any amount of fun on it whatsoever. This way nothing can ever happen to it. As long as you have something nice there will always be someone in this world to fuck it up for you whether intentionally or accidentally, it's a fucked society we live in. Oh, and when I put my bike back in my enclosed garage, I leave it in gear.
