Fuel pump, clutch basket & Nitrous advice
Hi All,
I am new to the forum and would like a bit of advice, I have a stock 2005 ZX12R apart from a PC3, K&N & performance headers/exhaust and Ive just bought a direct port wet nitrous kit to install.
Only to be used on the street & not raced
My questions are:
Is it a minimum requirement to fit a billet clutch basket if I run a modest 40-50 shot?
Will I need to upgrade the stock fuel pump at that bhp?
Does the ignition timing need to be retarded with a 40-50 shot
Thanks in advance,
Lee.

asking when you need a billet basket is like asking how many times you can bang a girl bareback without getting her pregnant. i have well over a hundred passes down the strip on my stock basket and its fine, but my buddy blew his up just doing a wheelie. so i ordered a billet one. all i can say is just get it out of the way before it becomes a problem.
no experience in the other areas.

Billet basket is a good idea
stock fuel pump and injectors will handle a 50 shot
ignition should be retarded if your using pump gas, about 2 degrees
dont need to retard if using c12

That is a great answer!! Informative and funny!! Keep the timing stock. As long as you run a seperate pump for the nitrous kit the stock pump is fine. My bike makes over 200hp and I run a stock basket!

buy a billet basket, cheap insurance. my buddy took out an entire motor when he blew his up. (the basket)
50 shot, stock motor, stock timing if using 93 or higher octane. if you can only get 91 like me, retard it a degree or 2. be sure to have it running the correct AFR or a bit rich to ensure you dont melt anything. i would go for low 12s:1 range. richer yet if this is for more than a 1/4 mile. for half a mile to 1 mile go 11.7:1 AFR
for your wet kit, does it have its own seperate fuel pump? you have a non return type factory pump, unlike the early bikes that had a pressure regulator on the fuel rail, with a return line going back to the tank. the old Muzzy stealth kit "T"ed into this return line, regulated the pressure down to 7ish psi, and fed the fuel solenoid with that. im not sure how well your bike would work if you "T"ed into your pressure line and put a regulator on that.... you may want to do something like what i have, which is a seperate fuel pump for the wet kit, and the stock system is unchanged, and not stressed. Last yr I ran a NOS pump which worked great. this season Im currently re doing my nitrous plumbing and im going to use a Holley Blue pump(kinda over kill)
