the sad tale of

So we insured freek's old "garbage bike" today... a mid 80's 450 Nighthawk.... rode around the city.... it's always had a "clunking crunching" noise from the rear end... I knew the wheel bearings were knackered... so about 10 miles from home the crunching gets really loud... then a snap! we pull over.... no more wheel bearing... the cush drive is barely in the wheel... the wheel is on an angle with the chain and chain guard holding the whole mess together....

do we tow it home? no way... we ride.. slowly... stop every block or two to kick the wheel back in place....

actually it was fun... I intend to replace the bearing.... I guess I HAVE to now (shheeesh).... I may be bold and replace the steering head bearing as well... it has an odd "notch" when the wheel is not turned....

have you been eating some mushrooms er something down there? you gave that bike to Kiwi a year ago and signed it over to her.... (she was supposed to paint butterflys on it etc etc.... remember? think back! WAY back!)....

re crunching.... makes me wonder is "honest Al the biker's pal" perhaps switched wheels or something as it has always made that crunching noise since we've had it.....

hmmmmm...
