HEEELP service questions (Oil and cleaning)
OK zx-12 gods - I just performed MY FIRST zx-12 oil change... and I have a few questions (actually I'm scared SHITLESS). Here we go:
I just purchased the filter from my local Kawi dealer. They gave me a 1070 model. According to www.zx-12r.org this is the best to have - opinions welcome on that! But the REAL reason I am concerned is that I put EXACTLY 2,800 ML of Motel 300V 15-50 into the bike as EVERYONE suggests... BUT I DO NOT SEE ANY OIL IN THE OIL GLASS!!!!!!! Should I add more?!?!
Also - I just cleaned the Muzzy pipe with some metal shine - is this an ok product to use on alum and Ti?
THANKS GUYS!

1070 is the right filter.
3 quarts (2838 ml) is the right amount with a filter change. Have you started it and watched the light go out ? If not, are you sure the glass isn't completely covered with clean oil ? It should read right at half the glass with 3 quarts and a filter.
Some things I've I read on .org are so wrong they scare me, I don't go there anymore. (personal opinion, not advice)
Some metal cleaners will leave a coating and burn on the pipe. I guess it depends if it's one of those type of cleaners then it would be a bad idea.
Hope that helped,
Dave

Thanks Dave,
I don't really have the bike on a level surface, so that is probably the cause. I put in a TAD over 2.8 liters, so I think I'm ok . I'm just paranoid - I don't want to hurt my baby!

OH!! almost forgot - the oil light never was on... because I filled the oil filter up before putting it on the bike . The TOTAL amount (including the amount I used to pre-fill the oil filter) was 2.8 liters.

Oh, I assumed a level surface. Also the bike has to be level too, if it's on the side stand you won't see oil.

You make me feel bad. I wont even change the oil myself, I'd rather take it in to the dealer. Just me though.

So I take it that your question and worry is over?

First, glad to see you using Motul! Even better the 300V! 50 weight "WILL" Take some HP away! Use 10 or 15 W 40 in the future! AS Dave said, it must be perfectly level! Also lean the bike over on the clutch side then straighten it up and watch the oil level! #2, I put in 3 quarts "After" prefilling the filter! It takes about 3 to 4 times to keep an oil level in the filter and yes some will spill out when putting it on! So if you do not see "Oil" add 8 ounces! You want it to be at least on the bottom line of the site glass! And yea again, it takes a while before it levels out! Either put the bike on a shop stand or even better, have someone hold the bike while you look! "Even over filled, you will see no oil in the glass on the side stand!!

I think vinny wins the solution prize!!
Gotta perform an act of bravery by holding the bike upright and look at the sightglass.
