brake cleaning
How do you guys clean your brake cylenders? My bike's lower half is granite paint and I don't want to risk it with brake cleaner.

Are you talking about the brake fluid reservoir (sp?)? I usually use a slurper (turkey baster) to suck the fluid out of the reservoir. If there is dirt or grime on the housing I spray brake cleaner on a towl and then carefully wipe the reservoir out. If you are talking about the calipers I have found S100 and my pressure washer takes care of the calipers without any problems. Frankly unless the calipers are real bad the pressure washer does a good job without any chemicals.

I personally try to avoid "Pressure" Washers the "Force" can enter past the seals and get into bearings! The "S100" is good, but pricey! Simple Green, But the cleaner of "ALL" Time is Castrol Super clean! The Purple stuff! It will take the oil out of your skin, clean then grease on the chain! Use cheap rubber gloves and you do not need to wait long to hose off! You can even see your chain rust if you do not re-lube it right away! The stuff is cheap 4 to 7 dollars per "GALLON" use a simple bottle sprayer! Do not leave on unprotected parts like aluminum, because it will eat the aluminum and turn it dark! Do not leave on the painted surfaces for more than a minute or two, because it will take the oil out of the paint! This is why I mentioned SImple Green or the Green wheel cleaner Espree Mag wheel cleaner! Not as strong and just works a little slower!
Consider a large House painting brush! You can do serious wirk with this and a green cleaner in a few minutes!

I have chosen the s100 because it has never messed up my paint, carbon fiber etc. As for the pressure washer I agree used incorrectly it is bad for bearings and seals. I have a 12 horse[power unit capable of cutting concrete with the right nozzel in it. I of course choose the wide angle and keep it away from a direct shot at the bearings. Been doing it for years and the only bearing I have ever actually damaged or wore out on my street bikes have been the steering head bearings. And that has something to do with my handle (ZHooligan) and wheeelies!!
My best friend used simple green on his 996S Ducati. The carbon fiber has gone all to hell. Ducati won't wartranty it because he used Simple Green! Personally I think Ducati is full of crap but that is the deal.

I had no question about "YOU"!! using the power washer, but would you send just anyone out there with one! Glad you spoke ont the subject! There are a lot of things out there! Espree is my 1st choice, but you got to learn the product! I have a friend that does not use water! He sprays everything with WD 40 (Gallons of it) and then brake cleaner for the pads an rotors! NOTHING Has ever rusted on his bikes!!
