ignition removal

How the hell do you get the ignition out? I took the upper triple tree off and when you flip it ovet to unbolt the ignition there isn't any nuts or bolts. just some sorta bolt with an end on it not suitable to wrench, socket, etc???

Amy help please??

thanks

Drill the head off and then unscrew the bolt. Just take your time and be gentle..

+1

It takes an anti tamper torx socket....it looks like a regular torx socket but with a hole in the middle of it... most bikes use them on there ignitions and TP sensors to keep people from messing with them...you should be able to pick up a set at any auto parts store.

nah.. no drilling.. runs the risk of killing threads. those are tamper proof screws designed to sheer the heads off to prevent removal after the factory torqueing.

use a dremel with a 1" cutoff wheel and slot them to accept a flat screwdriver.. no F'd up threads, reusable screws. win/win

if it's an safety torx like fasttimes said, you can get those bits (an entire kit) at sears as well might wanna look for an impact driver and suitable bits.. i use impact drivers on those things because face it.. you jack that bolt all up, it'll be a bitch to get out of there!! they (at least on my bike and a few others) tend to be loc-tite'd in.

cant get a dremmel in there. mine drilled out fine, actually once the heads were almost drilled off, they started turning IN. reversed the drill and they screwed out. maybe i got lucky...?

ahh.. thats crap.. lol.. i almost had a pinch bolt on a CRF 250F kick my ass today.

almost.

did my little slot trick and hit that bitch ith an impact driver..lol

now, as far as disassembling the switch to access the contact block for service or repair, this is how i've always done that.. they use those snappy offy screws on the housing halves.. the 7-R has a bad time with desoldering the 6V CDI control wire (anti theft ) nd leaving it's rider stranded and hopeless. (usually in the rain at 4AM)

i'm not a fan of the torx stuff simply because i've never seen an impact-duty bit and those things don't take much before they bite the dust. those ignition-related fasteners are always loc-tited in as well. the safety ones are a bit better with alignment and all, but still.. i just don't trust them.. i rarealy strip em out, but i've seen it done enough times to give me nightmares.
