Dyno Charts and Pipes
I've been on the hunt for a good pipe for the ol' 12.
I'm looking for:
1. Low decibles
2. Good Bang for $ (HP curve)
Anecdotal evidence abounds, however (on this board and others). But I want to see curves with STOCK bikes with different pipes. Add in variables like PCIII and it skews results, I think.
I've noticed that many manufacturers are not quick to publish those.
Anyplace I can find horse power curves and decible ratings for pipes? I've been stumbling around and haven't really found anything that pokes out.

Rather than explain here why Muzzys does not generally publish that information. Please go to Muzzys.com and read the FAQ's. This may help you make your decision.

i'v always heard that the acra is the quietest, but it's certainly not the best deal. i like hindles too but they'r known to be fairly loud. i'd go with a muzzy with the quiet core. pretty much the same power as all the other fore runners, relatively quiet with the optional core, and priced well. i'v never gone for the smaller brands just case i figure they cant possibly put the same effort and expertise into r&D as the big boys. just dont have the money. course this is all just what i'v gathered fomr others, since i'v never bought a pipe myself.

Unscientifically, with a db checker, the Muzzy stainless header wrapped and a oval ti can with 15000 kms on it, 85 db at 1200 rpm and 94 at 3000 rpm. That measurement is taken at one meter (3.3) plus or minus .3" :-) and at same height from ground and at 45 degrees from the opening. Here in the lower mainland, the magical number is 94 db. I have yet to measure a stock pipe under the same conditions. Should be around 80 db though.

The Akrapovic Race and Evolution systems are very good choices, but don't really fit the "bang for the buck" category. The Yoshimura RS-3 Duplex Race systems are also reasonably quiet (no... they are NOT as quiet as the stock system!), arguably offer better performance in the low-mid rev range (and still deliver comparable performance at the upper end of the rev range)compared to the Akrapovic systems and cost substantially less.
The data from the manufacturers is questionable in my opinion. Some will give data from the dyno with the bike totally stock and then with their exhaust system installed. But you have no way of knowing if they just bolted on the exhaust system with no other "tweaks" before doing the dyno runs. I know of one manufacturer of 12R exhaust systems that DID use a PCIII to get maximum H.P. for their published data - but only with their exhaust system installed, of course!! Wouldn't surprise me a bit if the others did it as well. It's all about marketing and making YOUR product look as good as you can!
I'm not going to knock Muzzy's exhaust systems for the 12R - lots of people are using them and 12Rs equipped with Muzzy's exhausts have done VERY well in racing. But, they are pretty damn loud!! Don't know how much difference in performance a "street" baffle would make on one of their systems.

I'm not in the market for an exhaust system, but I did go to the Muzzy's website to see what info was in the FAQ's. I looked around on the site for several minutes, attempted a search for FAQ's, etc... I didn't find the FAQ's!! I don't claim to be super intelligent, so please tell me where I can find these Frequently Asked Questions on your site. Better yet, please post a link on here!!

Saw a new Muzzy Ti full system w/carbon can on the wall at Fremont (CA) KAW for $850 yesterday. Is this a deal?
I like my Akrapovic Evo, light, nice looking, & quiet. I only purchased it cuz it had the reputation for having lightness & quiet/mellow tone. 2 years ago when I got it I just happened to find a dealer friend that had one for cost (<$800) so I couldn't pass up the deal.
If I had to do it over again, I'd probably go for the Muzzy stainless w/Ti "quiet" can (unless I was racing & needed the extra HP, or like "tone.") I like the Muzzys sound; I just don't like CHP "fix-it" tickets. (One local town is writing up ANYONE for ANY pipe "modified exhaust." (Fremont, CA))
I also like supporting the folks that support us; & that's Muzzys.

Eastbay. U have the Full Ti Evo? I have a full Ti Muzzy that I would love to work out a trade somehow for a Ti Evo Akra..

I have both a full MUZZY Ti system and a TiForce full Ti system for my 00 12. Both pipes make the same max power on the dyno. The TiForce pipe has a small signiture dip in power at 6500 and as of yet I have not been able to map the bike to get rid of that one small glitch. Other then that the TiForce is significantly quieter, the bike does not hunt or lope at idle which is a common complaint for the MUZZY and the TiForce fit without having to trim, cut or shim the fairing. The Muzzy required some serious trimming.
Given everything I know of the two I like the TiForce.

Uh, think its SS/alloy something for the front half (magnet doesn't stick.) I'm not sure exactly what metal it is up front. It's not turning color so I assume it's not Ti header & "S" pipe. The canister is Ti for sure tho (very light & the right color.)
See, when I got it 2 years ago apparently they only had the Evo "race" system available for the ZX12R in stainless header/Ti can. Least that's what I was told, & the price was right so I got it. The stainless Muzzy was at the time (& still is), a lot lower cost.
Naw, don't want to trade thanks anywayz. I like it as it's quieter than any other pipe I've ever tried on ANY streetbike in 30 years (maybe excepting a Supertrapp w/few disks on a KZ1000.)
Someday I'd like to try a Muzzy quiet can Ti system; but will wait until I wear this one out, get a SUPER deal, or ding it (knock on wood!)
