So, I've got a Muzzy lockup and hub
I'm a little unsure about the air gap - using all 2mm steels it comes out at around 2.5mm - so whats the effect if the air gap is bigger or smaller and anybody have an idea about a target setting for the air gap. Nox, i know you know but I'm not expecting the "knowledge". Ha Ha, Its a pity someone doesn't stamp out some 2.2 or 2.4mm steels to make adjustment easier without going back to two thin steels, 1.e 1.4 or 1.6mm's. Keith

air gap = clearance between the arms and pressure plate?

i just stack steels, but it would be nice to have 1.8s and 2.2s. i run mostly 2.0s and a mix of 1.6s to get that clearance right. on the MTC lock up I beleive the clearance range is 2.54mm to 3.175.(going from memory i think its .100 to .125in) i aim for the middle. its easy to see how much your stack height changes (wears) as the clearance gets smaller
i dont think it affects the launch so much as about 15 feet out and on. Nox may correct me if im wrong, but i would think more clearance would let the arms move further outward and create more clamping force as the "circle" the tip of the arm makes would be bigger

Well ran my first meeting of the season yesterday using my lightest clutch springs and no weight on the arms. Best run was 9.26/157 with 1.633 60' and 122.8 at 330'. For a change the bike didn't go skyward when i dropped the clutch but did start to climb upwards about 40 feet from the line. Couple of times I had to back off to get the front down. Did a 9.29 with 126.4 at 330' also. I'm getting some lighter still springs made up which I hope to get soon to try. Gonna pull the clutch and check the airgap this week and see how the plates are holding up with no weight on. Cheers for now, Keith.

40 feet out. you have too much weight on it still(arms count as weight). you were running 6 bare arms right?

your mph is low Paul, are you at a really high elevation? I was getting pretty consistant 119s in the 1/8 with a stock motor on pump gas in 07.

Yes, six bare arms Scott. Didn't tell you, first run of the year, coldish track, launched as 7k, dropped the clutch bike went violently to the left then the same to the right with a big jerk and shed the chain. Still had enough impetus to get me to the end of the strip freewheeling! Luckily the chain was OK and after refitting went out and ran a string of low nines. Commentator said not bad for a guy qualified for a bus pass. Ha Ha.

How much motor are you running, or how much N2o....You`ll get faster as soon as your work with the lock up more....

Well, your weight is part of it.......
With stock wheels, etc, I ran quicker, but, you got that humidity, and dont you run pump gas? lots of little things add up. Good sixty though, just heavy package I assume.
My best stock motor, bars no pc, no pipe, was 5.72. 5.80 with stock wheels, no bars, mcr, and shinko, ran a 5.80 on both. You do not want to know where I shift quite a bit higher than that......, run u4.2, 5w20 amsoil dominator, etc. I ran 123 mph a couple weeks ago.

Cool, nice engine setup....
Mine see`s alot of street riding so I can`t go full out racing package like NOX.....
And I have got heavier over the past few years....No weight off the bike.....17/52, no custom mapping....Just ALL the bolt on stuff....Valvecover never off, oil pan never off either....
But you got that bike going good, just work a little more with the L/U and your there....

stuart i think you will pick up shifting at 12000 on tach. 12,200 is where my limiter is stock. the tach is off quite a bit. you are short shifting it. i added 300 to my limit and now shift at 12,500 or lower. only issue is when i ride tshults 00 12r i have to tell my self to shift at 12,000. i need to hook him up with a opened up ecu.

I`ll give that a try....You may be on to something....I`m so used to racing the older KZ`s that shift at 10,000 most of the time....But I`ll check it out....
Thanks.....

most of the guys i know with bikes that thought a shift light was a good idea do not use it anymore. they watch the tach and then you are seeing you are getting close then shift now. instead of o shit the light is on and you are not thinking about it. just what i noticed. get a air shifter and have the light turn on a relay and use that for a auto shift and just pin it.

That would be classed as cheating and against drag racing rules over here. Not that it hasn't been done I suppose!

i know they sell modules to auto shift. i guess you need to check the rules. just seeing the tach getting close to redline has to be better for anticipation of a shift then nothing at all then bam the light is on. i do not use the lite in my car.

i tried a shift light. i do better watching the tach.
as for the auto shift: one thing i was told my first season racing involving that stuff, "its only cheating if you get caught." funny, cuz this is the same guy that ended up winning a lot of races....
