That's so funny comparing the 1125 CC bike to a 600 CC bike, sad thing is the 600 CC bike can hang

I stand corrected...still, there's gotta be a 20hp + difference between the 1125R racebike and the I-4s.quote:
quote: Dude, a stock 1125R makes more power at the back wheel than a factory-prepped, big-bucks, skunk-works YZF-R6 does at the crank! That's basically unequal no matter how many cylinders or what the bike weighs or whatever.
Wrong. The stock 1125R makes 120 hp at the rear wheel. A "factory prepped" Supersport bike is well over 130 hp at the rear wheel.

...the 600cc IL4 sportbike class is an astoundingly hot class on the street and on the track....win on Sunday, sell on Monday...
...I think most riders buy their bikes based on their egos, not their abilities...and only the relative few amongst the total amount of buyers are as capable as the bikes they chose to buy...this level and type of debate appears to be a sportbike or sporty-type bike phenomena....
...I participate on many recreational websites and you don't see this level and kind of egotistical debate regarding cruisers, tourers, and off-road bikes...you see some, but not at this crazy level...
....the 600cc IL4 crowd yell about their engine's sophistication and superiority while mocking the v-twin's "lump of iron" format...true, a 600cc IL4 will smoke a 600cc V-twin...ok, but how does one debate the performance advantage/disadvantage of a Duc's l-twin 1098cc or 1108cc bikes against a Japanese bike's IL4 1000cc to 1200cc on the street?...quality of suspension and bike geometry aside, the issue of total bike weight comes into play, doesn't it?...we're talking street riders on street bikes, not racers on race-prepped bikes...
....would it still be an apple to apple comparison when the displacement is larger?....

Ya just couldn't leave it alone.....
Sure thing. If you will agree that a semi-well ridden 600 will spank a 14.
Now back to the XR1200 being a cool bike.

You're comparing that thing (not sure what kind of catagory that fits into....) to the XR1200 ?
It's gonna take me some time to figure out exactly what I think of whatever that is supposed to be. It's just not my cup-o-tee for a Ducati. Actually, almost criminal to do that to a Duc. Looks more holigan or Roland Sands-ish than anything at first glance. Need to marinate on it....

....a moto-journo's objective/subjective report aside, why is that the hater on the street who wouldn't even consider a bike such as the XR1200 always seem to be the ones who disparage it the most?...what is the value of their opinion?...if you don't like, then don't look at it and don't buy it....there's no real value in a hater's disparaging remarks about a particular bike that they wouldn't be caught riding anyway...buy what you like and forget about the rest...
...I'm going to guess that all bikes-types more or less have their focus group-types....even those in a focus group can be finicky and maybe slightly unfocused...the manufacturers can only hope they hit the mark with this group...the haters are obviously not the ones it is intended for....
...same goes for the HD Sporties...who cares if a hater thinks its a "chic bike"...some chics and dicks like the Sportie...I like the Sportie, especially the Nightsers ...its a great and relatively inexpensive intro for those who want to consider HD ownership...but my fatster body doesn't quite fit it ....still, I can appreciate it for wat it is...of course, some chics might prefer something bigger and heavier beween their legs to...uh...compensate...there's always the big HDs for them as well...sounds familiar, huh?
....now back the XR1200....I think its focus group are the ones who gravitate toward bikes such as the Kawasaki ZRX, the Yamaha FJ, the Honda CB, and the Suzuki GS for instance...great sporting (not sportbike) UJMs with sensible ergos and adequate hp.tq to have fun with...and they were relatively cheap to buy and own..
...sure some of us think HD missed the mark slightly with the XR1200's weight and certain styling cues, but overall HD got the gist of what we remember the original track XRs looked like...and this is, afterall, a STREET BIKE, thus I imagine certain consessions...nothing the aftermarket like Storz can't help fix for the rest of us...hey we all can't possibly ride like Shobert and Parker, let alone ride like them while riding a STREET BIKE on the street
...I haven't ridden one yet, but based on what I've been reading it should be a fun bike to ride when ridden within its design parameters...wanna go faster?...then mod it to make it safer to go faster!...to each his own

We like what we like, Harleys just aren't my cup of tea. I'm sure Kerry has been around bike shops long enough to remember the Harley riders coming in to a Japanese bike shop and crowing how they chew up anything and what crap the Jap bikes were. Then they got a taste of an H1 (500 triple) and had to STFU. It was my job at the Kwak shop in 71 to go out and humiliate anyone on anything that thought they were fast.

When I Retire and live in Florida and have nothing to do, I first want to find the Kawasaki Triumph WR to remember my first days of Riding but without the dripping on the Garage Floor. Then I want to buy one of these so I can relive the days of "Then Came Bronson" but not be broke down all of the time and not have very far to go! Last if I want to go somewhere I plan to buy either a BMW Touring or Gold Wing Touring so that Peggy can read her books and drink her bottled tea and Listen to the Music while I enjoy Hanging off in a turn and listen to the engine! I only want about 10 bikes! Of course I also want a $70,000 Ducati GP Rep. also Only Time and Money are the problem!
I think It is a good Looking bike and with some Light Wheels and Exhaust it could lose an easy 50 to 75 pounds

I simply don't discriminate. I've been a motorcyclist pretty much my entire life. Love to ride anything with two wheels and a motor. Roadracing is my favorite. But... Dirt Track, MX, Offroad, Trials, Speedway, Drag, Land Speed, Free Style , etc, etc. I also enjoy. Going to Daytona, Sturgis, Honda Hoot, Myrtle Beach, Laguna Seca, or simply going down to the corner is fun. Hell, even riding on the Dyno is fun to me! I enjoy dragging a knee in the morning on my favorite road, then come home and jump on the Buell, FXR, or whatever is around and cruise down to the beach.
I have friends and/or customers in every form of motorcycle disipline you can imagine. Again, I'm simply a motorcyclist.
And Ted - Yes, I do remember those days. Today, it is much better; but still not completely gone.....

I also do not discriminate. I have had 25 bikes since I was 13, 1/2 of them dirt bikes.
I Have ridden 1 harley, what an adventure. A friend of a friend went on a ride with his wife and had way too many drinks, they hauled him and his wife inm and impounded the bike, mind you it was 4 hrs away from us and where he lived. They needed someone with an m/c licence to drive the bike home, since I was the only one with one, we decided to go.
We get there around 2 am, and I have to start this '73 sporster myself, ok I weighed 125# at the time and it was kick start, but believe it or not I did it, so my friend I was with drove them I drove the harley. The thing that required a steep learning curve was shifter on right (reverse pattern), and brake on left, totally opposite of anything I was used to. I learned quick, of course this was in Md., and helmets were not required and I did not have one, not more than 3 miles into the trip it started raining as well. Yes I do appreciate helmets now and always wear one no matter what.
So it was a unique experience, and I did enjoy not only the challenge, but learning something new, a bike which had a wayyy different power curve than the bike I had at the time, which was also my first streetbike a '82 gs750t. Would I buy one now, nope... The c-14 is the bike I always dreamed of, comfort, power, excellent handling and brakes. The comfort this was major, I am pushing 42 and my back is not what it was in my younger years, and wanted an all 'round bike and finally found it.
So there are many different types of bikes, each fills it's own niche, and if there was nobody interested in a brand or model, either the company would have to redesign it or go out of buisness, but HD has that image and history that holds them as a major mfr, and a lot of followers as well.
A lot of those fans like the fact of an "american made bike" however, any more, there are a lot of foriegn parts in them. As far as I know of american made bikes go, they have the least amount of american made parts of the american made bikes..
So, to each their own, if you like it that's all that counts in my opinion...

Might be a good bike to complete my line-up, Zx14-XR1200- Goldwing 1800, Looks nice, But i am afraid i would just get bored and sell it. Do they still need a valve adjustment at every rest stop. Not to be a smart ass i just cant get excited about a 10 grand turd. I have tryed to like harleys they just wont let me. But when the snow melts i will go look at one. If they will let me ride it, Without any tats, I might consider it. Everytime i go into the local harley shop carrying a real helmet, they look at me like a enemy. So i will walk in and ask to ride harleys sport bike. Bet they wont let me ride it. I really want the new Yamaha so i will just keep the test ride a month apart.

i'm going to a conce3rt in Iowa and have a hookup on cheap gold wings in chatanooga tn. instead of flying to iowa, thinking fly in and pic up a gold wing and ride that bigh to iowa, then back through the mountains, then back to FL
what scares me is I'm afraid it'd sit in the garage forever after that

I Understand! I want someone to tow it to the interstate while I ride my SPort bike there and then ride it up and down the Interstate and then have someone tow it home for me! Just SOO Heavy! That is why like you I would consider a BMW also! I do not like a heavy Bike!
At Daytona a few years ago I sat on a friends Harley and was Playing around like I was Straining to turn the handle Bars! Then I decided to actually turn them and it WAS a Strain! How can you enjoy doing that much work? Lifting it from the side stand was MAJOR work! And this was just a Big Harley not dressed up!
I do like the look of this Harley and for a 4th Bike I would get one!
