Clutch plates asap?

Well..it finally happened. Playin around tonight doing some rollons and now the clutch wont hold above 8k rpms.

Thankfully it held together enough at lower rpms and I made it home.

However I need new plates before maxton.

Steve...you going to see if your buddy has some spares layin around? If not...I hope ron ayers stocks em :/

Ill call ron ayers here in a bit...and a few local dealers.

Whats the count again for steels and fibers? 2.0mm or 1.xmm?

Worst case scenario I will have a spare set of used fibers and steels at Maxton that may be enough to patch you up.

YCIS,
My son works at a Kawasaki dealership in parts. If you can't do any good, let me know ASAP or call him at 865-981-4444 and ask for Zack. We can bring them to Maxton and put them in there. Just let us know something.

Ok..called ron ayers and they havem in stock...but the price seems quite outrageous.

PN 13089-2214 2.0mm Steel - 5.89ea
PN 13088-1131 Fiber - 8.50ea

10x 5.89 + 11x 8.5 = 152 bucks

Is this freakin right? Almost cheaper just to buy the muzzy clutch kit :/

Ouch! I don't remember paying that much for friction plates. Then again, I got EBC heavy duty plates.

10+11? I thought it was 11+12 (11+1). From Buykawasaki.com...13088 13088-13088

13089-1123 PLATE-CLUTCH,T=1.6 11
13089-1124 PLATE-CLUTCH,T=2.0 AR
13089-1125 PLATE-CLUTCH,T=1.4 AR
13088-1131 PLATE-FRICTION 11
13088-1132 PLATE-FRICTION 1 (that "special sized" one at the end or beginning of the pack... I forget which)

Is this because your running 2.0mm steel instead of the "standard" 1.6mm? Forgive my ignorance on this, but is there advantages to this? I always thought the "Alternate" sizes were just for getting the whole pack to the proper size specs.

Redelk see these topics to get up to speed:
http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=13&TID=4378
and
http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=13&TID=4445

YCIS as far as I know those prices are about what I've been paying. The Muzzys replacement clutch kit is usually $185.00 ~ 199.00 depending on where you shop so at $152.00 it's still around $30.00 less for the same parts.

Maybe you should pull yours apart and see if you just need a couple steels rather than a whole pack might be easier on the wallet for now.

Oh I dont mind the cost...as id wanted to replace them for maxton anyway...I just had the thought in my head that the fibers/steels were around 3 bucks a pop instead of 6 and 9.

Ohwell..they are on order now...should be here by monday or tuesday if all goes well.

Steve said he may have a few extra plates lyin around...im going to yank it apart tonight and see how bad the damage is. It seems to drive fine at lower rpm...so I might get off lucky.

YCIS,
R Ayers is the cheapest! OEM from Kwak is $250 for 10 2mm steels and 11 fibers.

Race... THANKS FOR THE LINKS! Now, here's an even dumber question... is one doesn't race and rarely even uses the clutch, would this still be an improvement? I saw where ra said removing his spring and replacing his small friction with a standard made his clutch smoother.

I know that one of these days, I'll have to replace mine. Get this... after 36K+ miles, I still have the same steels and fibers! I've taken the pack apart several times for inspection of it and the basket (also "original"), but I've yet had any slipping problems.

Being a "twisties only" guy, I just use my clutch to start off and about 1/2 of my downshifts. I did the same with my '97 7R and it wasn't till 63K did I have any problems. I had a bent shift fork. Since I had an extended warranty and a "paranoid" mechanic, we replaced everything from the input to output shaft.

Borrowed some fibers/steels from Kevin today (thanks again kev)...replaced the two short fibers and rings with regular size ones and it seems to work great!

Hopefully it will survive tonight...we shall see.

Ok...first ride...the clutch seems to hold ok up top...but the clutch "shudders" and chatters violently when easing away from a stop....Its never done this before...and Its annoying the hell outta me. I was also amazed at how much the clutch "adjusts" itself after you put it back together and go ride for a bit. When I started there was no play....when I got home the lever can be pulled halfway in before it engages :/
