Is it true that if I get a full exhaust I could loose @ bottom end?

I have to first start out by saying I'm a newb when it comes to bikes. Hell mechanics all together! I'm very much humbled by this fact. I'm learning more and more it seems. So I'm shooting the breeze with a guy that I just met he's a CBR 1000RR guy. can't remember what year. However he was saying that allot of people complained when changing the ZX12 exhaust to a full muzzy etc... and adding K&N filters. they gained great top end but lost all types of bottom end!!??!! does this make since? I'm no expert (goes with out saying) But I thought if you open the breathing up on a motor it should gain all the way around. Is this true? Again I'm a newb so I did not call him out.

If this is a dumb question please humor me and give me a good answer so I will never ask it again! LOL!

I have a full Yosh system with PCIII USB on an '03. It got a little soft off idle, not bad. With the PCIII I was able to get rid of the "on/off switch" affect of the throttle at low speed in 1st gear.

But at 2000-2500 rpm there's a big drop in power. With about 3 degrees of ignition advance and playing with the PCIII it's a lot better than it originally was and certainly rideable. It's a matter of an increase in throttle does not give a proportional increase in motivation. Once it hits 2500 though it's a whole different ball game. A lot more power with a hit at 6000 and again at 8000.

I've heard Muzzy's are similar maybe worse around 2000, don't know about any others. All-in-all, it was well worth it.

i have the muzzy ti system on my 2000. with it and advancer at 2.5 advance i picked up 23hp. over stock. one issue is the removal of the stock bike exhaust gets rid of a lot of backpressure. the valve overlap it alot on our bikes and with out the backpressure some of the air can come out of the exhaust and it is way over rich in the 2000 to 2600 rpm range.
the gains in big bike sound and horse power to me are worth it. i am now able to get my bike in the 9.7s in ok summer air.
for the price i love my pipe.

I had my 02 ZX12R mapped out at Stock Mild to Wild in Jacksonville FL by Kevin. He did a fantastic job, with my Muzzy exhaust and PC, with his map and +4 degrees in the ignition he got rid of the off idle stumble, and took the bike to over 180hp. I was so impressed with his work, and the shop, that when I get back to Savannah he will get my 01 ZX12R that I currently have for mapping. I am curious to see what can be had out of it. It was mapped in Nashville but the map sucks, and it still pulled 183 hp. I am betting he can get more, and make it smoother.

the only thing that sucks about what we are talking about is leaning out the bike for good dyno numbers i am finding out does not work as good away from the dyno.
i tuned my ecu on my bike and seen a peek of 187 or say a average of 185 when hot.
well at the track i was wondering where my mph went. others here convinced me to ritchen it up it was 13.5 to 13.7 now 13.2 to 13.2. it made my mph steady out.
thinking about it i was running 147 in the high heat and humidity but it was with a stock ecu with a dobeck adding 2 lines of extra fuel. plus also on the donalson i gained 5 mph on top end adding fuel to the stock ecu. my "dyno" numbers were lower than the stock numbers (leaner ) by a good bit.
now my map A is koups winning horse power settings.
map B is for raceing. i am going to go richer to 12.8 this spring and see what happens.
just my 2 cents.

when I map out the Zx12 this next time, peak numbers arent my main concern, I want a good smooth power curve as its a street bike, if it were just going to be a dyno queen it would be different.....but its not....
