2000 zx12r wineing noise
just bought a new zx12r 2000 off of the show room floor.the
bike has 86 miles on it now.there is a loud wineing noise
sounds like its comming from the right side, could this be
the start of a clutch problem.when the bike is as idle the
noise is very had to hear but it is still there.at 2000 rpm
and up the noise keeps getting louder and louder. i also have a 2001 & 2002 zx12r, both of these bikes sound fine and run great ! any help would be great.

clutch noise
everytime that I have heard the "standard" clutch noise it's been at low rpm with the clutch out. So I guess you can try a few things. Bring the idle to 2K rpm and pull and release the clutch. If the noise changes than it should be the standard clutch noise/problem. If the noise is constant it may not be and more research is needed to determine it cause. My noise used to be loud and annoying until I had the dealer drill the clutch hub. Now it's not as noticable unless I try to listen for it while stopped.

1) a loose timing pickup can cause the noise.
2) a loose nuts on the exhaust header where it bolts to the motor can cause it.
3) if the clutch, then it should change based on the lever position.
These happened seperately to me on two different 2000's!!!

My first comment is what kind of bike(s) are you used to riding. The ZX12 has more noises than any other motorcycle I have had. Initially when I started riding one I thought it was coming apart! But it turns out to be the nature of the beast.
Don't know if that is your problem, but they do have some interesting noises.

Straight Cut Gears always make noise and this is the only kind of Gear Kawasaki uses because the allow less loss of Power!

Straight cut gears do make noise as i used drag race and all the Suzuki guys used to switch gears on their hubs to "straight cut" rather than the quiter helical cut.....but most impoartantly they are STRONGER!
