In the interest of remaining "cool" motorcycle dudes in the eyes of the world, I think this thread should be deleted...

You are all pussies... I was a Senior engineer at a company that made CPM machines. Serial terminals and the like. I used to write the BIOS, BDOS, and all the utilities. Actually I still have a few of them.

My bike is faster than yours, my computer is faster than yours, blah blah blah.
I play with computers and peripherals every day that were unheard of a year or two year ago.
Dude, it's all cool stuff.

Fuck PC's.
Allow me to chime in this small bout of technical bravado...
I used to manage an environmnet with 200+ servers, and over 100Terabytes of storage.
We had boxes which are essentially a Cray. Sun bought the technologgy from them. We have three of those boxes which hold 64 processors. Each. And we were banging the shit out of 'em, too.
I had Oracle databases that were well over a terabyte in size. Running one instance.
But, glad I'm out of that business. I don't have nearly the stress now that I did. Plus now I can ride with Red Elk on the weekends.

heh
i get mad when i see what laptops go for these days.
5 years ago i bought the one i still use, was uberleet, had the 200mmx proc in it, and since it was so new, there was no laptop version, so is the standard desktop cpu. 3gb drive and the 12.1" screen were all huge wow factors.
3600 bux though....i saved for a year for that thing.
anyway it has been probably the most stable and useful intel/windows computer i have ever owned/worked on. didnt matter what os i used, 95b (which came on it), 98, 98se, nt4 server, nt4 ws, ME, and most recently xp home. getting close to beating the alltime uptime record for any computer of mine (current is 121 days with nt4 server, laptop of course)
anyway just for perspective and all... ;P
oh, first computer i ever used was a vic20, followed by apple ][+ and an apple //e
after that was a 386 TI laptop, which lasted a month before the video burned out. warranted replacement, which lasted 4 months and then died again....
;P
1993 i started on my first actual desktop pc, and am on my 4th now... not counting laptop. though i sold the mb/cpu from the first one, i still have trhe original tower, and it still works...though it is lonely right now without motherboard in it as i don't have any working at boards around...
as far as server admin and junk, the most modern ones were dual p][450 systems, with a crappy scsi raid (almost 500GB). though the robotic cdrom jukebox was a technological marvel that should never have ever been installed on the boat.....they don't LIKE to be moved about at odd angles with realtion to level....and as luck would have it always when not at optimal angle is when someone tried to retrieve a drawing that needed a cd change..and more than one disc would occasionaly end up in a cd drive...........
o well, i better quit before i get accused of post whoring....;P
