Idiot!!!!!!
WEll I did it. Dropped my new ZX12 while trying to stop in a patch of gravel.
Resulted in scratches to the plastic and the left engine cover.
Anyone know how to get it back to original shy of a new one.
Thought of painting the cover with a ZX12R logo or something.
Hellpppp!!!

Been there Done that!! Like mentioned, I also have the Not so Cheap $65 covers for both sides! You must let the bike sit for over 48 hours! Do not try to match the paint by touch up (Tried that) If you just ruined the decal, but another! I ended up painting the entire pannel it came out fairly well except the top on the winglet which I could not remove and save it also) THEN I decided to "Improve" on what I had done and fine Block sanded it with 1500 paper and it was so smooth it now looks a little lighter! Idiot ME!! Mine was sitting at Idle in the alley while I closed the gate and it was not facing "Up Hill" enough and fell while my back was turned! Ruined My day!!
If the "Scratches" are not too deep, use some 1500 paper and wet sand lightly then polish them out!!

You should not beat yourself up over dropping your 12. There was a thread about 6 months ago on this subject and you would not believe how many have dropped the 12 or knocked it over working on it.
I dropped mine on day # 3 with 600 miles on it after I put my foot in a fresh diesel spill at a stoplight. scratched the lower fairing and cover as well as bending the clutch lever.

I have a collection going of damaged panels. I used to give them away but I need to start repairing them. Being an ex-bodyman, I repaired both of my engine covers a while back. Instead of matching the stock color, this time I went with satin black. I like the look.

When I dropped mine (doing a U-ie on a steep hill) I just touched it up with a sharpie. It's the midnight black, so it rather blends in okay. Don't really notice it until the sun hits it just right.
I'll repaint a little later, most likely. But, I'm wondering on matching paint. Even if I take it to a body shop that 'matches' paint, I don't think it would really be the same. I'm assuming Kaw paint would be stooopidly expensive.

Thanks for the good words guys (and gals).
I've got another cover coming so I think i'll try powder coating or perhaps anodizing.

PS:
If wanted to take off the labels as they are slightly damged? What's the best way, since I might paint a different colour.

Did somebody say paint?
http://www.color-rite.com
For example:
2000-ZX1200-A1-Ninja ZX-12R
Factory Color Factory Code Color Rite Top Color Rite Base Comments
Primary Color: Metallic Lime Green (FACTORY VARIANCE COLOR) 8N 3808 1808
2000-ZX1200-A1L-Ninja ZX-12R (CA)
Factory Color Factory Code Color Rite Top Color Rite Base Comments
Primary Color: New Persimmon Red (FACTORY VARIANCE COLOR) 2000 AND ABOVE MODELS 3025 1760
Well it makes more sense on their chart. Aint cheap but the match is pefrect and they'll put it in aerosol cans or touch up pens. Matched wifey's ZR7 perfectamundo.

Has anyone anodized or powder coated the covers?
I'm concerned about warping the covers and then not being able to seal them afterwards.
