Got stopped by the man yesterday........
Well I took yesterday off to go for a ride, 75 and sunny. I was heading for the twisties and just got on a 5 mile long two lane that is always good & clear for a high speed blast. I passed the 2 cars in front of me and could not see any others for as far as I could see. I blasted up to the rev limiter in 6th, and that little voice inside my head said slow the fuck down NOW! So I back off and bring it down to about 80 indicated. I now see a few cars in the oncomming lane just becoming visible. The first was a small white convertable, the second was a big flatbed truck and the third was a cop. I knew that the cop could not have seen me make the top speed run from where he would have been so I just held it down to around 70. As I get to my turn off for the twisties I see him flying up behind me with his lights on. I went about another 1/2 mile and found a safe place to pull over, I got off the bike, got out my drivers lisc. & ins. card. He gets out and says " Do you know why I pulled you over?" I said no sir. He said "Speeding, 69 in a 55" (I got a real big smile on my face because I have been clocked from the air before and thought there might just be a chance that I was totally screwed.) I said I thought the limit was 70 out here. He said no, it is 55, but you are on a long clean stretch of highway on a 12 R and you were only going 69 MPH. I guess I should commend you for keeping the speed down! HE HE HE No ticket, just a thank you and a try to keep the speed down and have a nice day Mr. Phelps
I have not gotten a ticket for a long time and I always had previous ones fixed by a lawyer. He did run my plates ect. and saw that I had been a good boy for so long that he just thought well I guess I will let him go. Thank god for that little voice one more time! I was very lucky, if he would have caught me going faster and I would have thought about running, I never would have gotten away. There was major road construction on the road I would have needed to turn off onto and I would have had nowhere else to go.
Alan
PS The rest of the day was perfect! Had a great ride.
