Another rider gone down :-(
Got a bike delivered on a flat bed to the shop.
The guy was on a H-D was riding behind a couple of Tandum dump trucks side by side pulling up a hill at 30 kms / 20 mph. I don't know all the details except that I assume the rider got impatient and decided to split between them. By the time he got beside the cab, he and his bike was on the ground and got promptly run over by one of the trucks and is quite dead instantly. I will not go into the gory details.
I could see how luring it could be to try something as extremely dangerous (and of course stupid)manueovre.
Don't know what else to say except think before you pull that trigger............it happens fast.

Ass hole Truck Drivers
I can't count the number of times I've come up behind two truckers on the freeway who are doing about 20 mph up a hill, when the truck in back, thinking he can do 22 mph up the hill, pulls over in the fast lane, and attempts to pass the slower truck, w/o any reguard for all the traffic he's snarling. It's made me madder then hell before, so I can certaily understand a fellow rider wanting to pull the trigger.

...one wonders if the truck drivers even saw him...one wonders four things: they never saw him...they saw him and couldn't do anything to prevent it...they saw him, had good options, and chose not to do anything about it...they saw him and did a mailcious, deadly thing...
...based on the provided info here, the motorcyclist also bears responsibility for his own demise...
...please be wise and be careful out there...

IMO a Federal Law is needed for automatic lifetime lost of a drivers CDL if they are caught doing one of these 2mph passes.
It is one of my very biggest pet peeves. I HATE being caught up behind 2 semi's "racing" up a grade, one doing a couple of mph more than the other at best. And both of them are 30 mph under the posted limit.
Where in the hell is the impeeding traffic law enforcement?
Seems like the semi's can do most anything they want on the hiways.
I-90 is posted trucks 10 mph slower than autos. I can be going 70-72 mph in the car on cruise and have a fuckin semi pass me at a good rate of speed, probably 5 mph greater. THEN a few miles later I go thru a radar trap and --- there is no semi stopped. If the enforcement was correctly applied, the truck would have been cited. But it isn't. The same application of justice should allow me to cruise along at 85, but forget that unless you like paying big $$ to the state and insurance company.
Seems the cops around this state have the attitude that truck drivers are just trying to make a living and its ok for them to cause what I believe is a high incident of the Interstate 90 traffic accidents. I drive I-90 probably 8-10 times a year to Seattle area and back. I have only seen 2 car wrecks where there was NOT a semi involved,Grrrrrrrr.
There is a right hand lane,I wish they would keep those death traps over there. Also those same lazy asses will run a flat tire at 70-80 mph until it explodes and leaves shit all over the hiway. More than once I have seen a tire disintergrate while driving I-90. Just more garbage to have to look for when on the bike.
What ever happened to moving freight by rail? I believe rail use is a far better option than semi's for the long haul, Semis should be more of a local hauler. But that isnt how it is anymore.
Whew, guess its time for me to get off my soap box.

the reason they don't get nailed is that wonderful device known as radio.
in fact i travel with a cb radio myself in the truck.
they know long before the radar traps where they are, and usually how big.
rail i think is more costly....in the short term.
though with owner-operators (who i have found tend to be a bit more cautious drivers..you know that whole 300000 dollars invested thing) the cost to maintain truck fleet is probably lower still.
just like all other aspects of drivers, there are good truck drivers, and bad ones. some of the most courteous people i have driven near were truckers, and some of the least as well.
the problem with bad ones is they tend to make a MUCH bigger mess when they fluff up.

In this case it is obvious who the dummy is. Any fool who tries to split two dump trucks is an idiot....albeit a DEAD one this time!!
I agree about getting held up by trucks trying to pass each other when they are going like 1 or 2 mph difference. Same thing goes to any driver in any vehicle who is driving slow in the left or "fast" lane. I like the signs that say Right land, slow traffic.
I also know the people I blow by on the highway in my bike probably feel the same way about me as Ozzy does about diesels speeding and not getting a ticket. I usually get lucky and see the officers in time to slow down before I hit the "trap" they set. Doesn't hurt to have a radar detector either.
Like speednut said, there are just too many impatient drivers on the road today. Being stupid as well doesn't help much either.......

Sometimes they are not running side by side but in fact the truck in the Hammer lane is flat on the floor and lost his momentum.... Some trucks are setup speed limited to 66 or whatever their company deciedes... People get very impatient and do stupid things... And to make matters worse cars ride your ass so you can't get back in the slow lane you are stuck in the Hammer lane till you get by or outrun..... Try driving on of these guys and see how much of a dick people can be... You can signal but nobodys gonna let a big truck in front of them... Except somebody thats driven them and knows what its like.... Some trucks just don't have the balls to get by therefore they get stuck in the hammer lane.......

Hi guys, this in local paper.
Out of the local rag........
"Motorcyclist was killed in the 1700-block of 176th street thursday afternoon after he hit one dump truck and fell into the path of another. The 39 year old man, whose name had not been released by press time, tried to pass between the two large, fully loaded trucks - both of which were heading north on 176th, one in the right lane, the other in the left.
Police said the truck in the left lane was in the procedd of passing the truck in the right when the 1990 H-D motorcycle came up from behind and tried to pass between them.
Police ask anyone who witnessed the crash, which happened shortly after 3 pm, to call ....."
From info I gathered the trucks were going no faster than 30km/20mph. The grade of the hill at that spot is 6-8% or so.
