rubber damper

Has anyone had to replace the rubber damper in the rear wheel yet? If so, what were the tolerances?

normal riding .....check it every season

if one is prone to wheelies burn outs & drag racing

that rubber damper is prone to failure

never heard of it breaking anything or hurting anybody altho im sure

that is possible in the extreme

if you check it when you tyre up or change your chain..........

you w\ont miss out

I just have never heard anyone say anything about them yet. Yet the busa riders even have aftermarket cushions for theirs.

probly harder stuff. a wheel without a cush drive reacts faster in a race and makes the bike et better

it is possible that cush drives get beat up considerably

no less they are self ssacrificing & forgiving

in that role they perform admirably on the street..........................
aiding cin reducing driveline shock & much damage done to the chain
also helps in preventing tranny teeth from chipping

at the strip altogether another story

true many opt out from cush drives

true a standard street cush drive may seem to be mushy at the start line

true many after market wheels offer cush or not

true many after market cush drives are firmer than stock ones

ive seen them both beat down considerably & must say that the standard fares well

save fior the very worse circumstances

ive also seen a few aftermarket cush drives that were little more
than o rings...............................very diminutive

When I had my dealership (ZX-11 days) we would find them trashed on badly whipped bikes, but not so much on bikes that were ridden "normally".

The aftermarket makes alot of replacement cush drive assemblies, I've seen things as extreme as to have solid plastic or metal cush inserts for drag racing only to rubber that was as soft as toilet paper, if you just ride normal with ocassional drag race or knee drag session then stock should be fine.

On our old and stolen ZX11 the cush drive was changed couple of times in 100k miles but now on the ZX12 it's made differently and is still looking good after 65k miles. In 12 it's notably harder and seems to last way longer... I'll check it every time I change tires...
