Wont start...
Hey all,
Yesterday, on my 20min drive home from work, I stopped for petrol/gas...filled her up, payed the man and when to start the bike to get on my way..but it wouldnt start! As if the battery and suddenly gone dead.
I tried to push start it with the help of two guys but no luck. A new battery was installed today but its still the same!
The only thing I noticed strange the last week or so was that it took 2-4 seconds longer to start up than usual, but I just thought it was the colder weather...
Any ideas??
Thanks,
Seanie.

i will try to help you
you have several "interlock" devices on your moto that might keep it from running
they are usually associated with the clutch.....gear lever ....kick stand & of course
the kill switch
just riding.......washing......wear & tear......rain/dew [sitting outside o hooters at nite]
will cause some ofthose devices to stick...... not operate properly
or simply FAIL1 ! ! ! ! !
you will need a can of "contact cleane"r available at napa or radio shack
find those micro switches or interlock devices...........spray them....CLEAN them
& determine if they are operating properly or NOT ! ! ! !
replace or correct if neccessary
a quick on the road .......over the weekend fix when dealers may be closed
or you are far from home is to use WD40........it will work
kill switchs FAIL.......i never use them
the kick stand switch catches the MOST Gunk
the clutch switch is probably used the most......wears the most
try starting in neutral only
otherwise it could be something else
good luck

now, forgive my ignorance on the 12-R, i have yet to work on one, BUT i am familiar with the systems Kawi uses, typically.
on for example, my bike (2000 ZX7-R) there is a gray wire that carries 6V to the ECU as a theft deterrant. i'll assume your bike is more along the lines of perhaps the 636 tho with a key reader?
not sure, i aplogize for a stupid answer.
but, anyway, not to digress, that gray wire has a horrid habit of breaking off at the solder joint, and on rare occasions, the 100 ohm resistro in there burns up. this has happened to several bikes i've worked on, as well as my own.
just a thought tho, but i doubt your system is that simple.. lol.. but, like everyone else said, check the simple stuff, look for spark, listen for pump actuation and so on..
keep us posted, and good luck!

Hey,
Thanks for all the replys!
It turned out to be the starter switch....Had it re-built, and I stuck in a new battery too while I was at it.
So shes back on the road again after 2-3 days off it...Could have been worse!
