not sure, my bike came with K&Ns and thats whats in it now. ive seen a wheel fall off of a sled at my track, the occasional hood go flying.... just incase im running filters. every now and then thers a gust of dust thru the pits... i dont want those tiny tiny chunks of sand in my motor... now if i was running 9.000 every time i might pull them to hit that 8.9xx second run...

The stock ones let dirt into the Airbox! The K&N's were a BI-CH to get out! BMC Race never let dirt into the Airbox and did not reduce HP!

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish someone would put these filters to the test on a dyno. A street bike needs a filter. BMC street and K&N both work the same filterwize. I will say the K's are no more dificult to change. The BMC's had to be machined/ modified to even go in to the bike, the k&n's have to be wiggled out gently. They both have there flaws IMO. As far as airflow, I want to see a dyno run back to back with same bike and each filter. As far as dirt in the airbox, that filter design was an abortion anyway you look at it.

Also would like to see a comparison on dyno.
Been running K&N's forever. Why?
Can't get them out; so stuck I'm sure they would break/fall apart
forced removal. Sucks, can't clean them....grrr...

I always put some grease on the edges so I could get them out when I needed. I would say it helped with the dirt thing also, never had any in mine.....Man that sucks bro, at least try and get another filter (whatever you feel is right, new or used oem) and get them things out. One thing I learned about my 12 is it likes to breath, sucked the shit out of fuel also.

I still use the OEM air filters, no PC just an Akrapovic pipe, no lock up clutch, 87 octane pump gas and still kick ass Bracket Racing...
If you have a PC, then you want to remove the air filters...Afraid to remove them, then go with the BMC, better than K-N...

K+N vs Stock Vs. BMC race filter:
1. stock 02 zx12r (baseline 153.5)
2. step hindle 169 with pc
3. added K+N lost 3 hp (even tried tuning it but hp never came back)(brand new) lots of oil???
4. stock air filter ( back to back runs hp came back to 169)
5. Bmc race filter (about a 1 hp gain over the stock filter)(brand new) didn't seem to have as much oil as the K+N
My filter test was done on the same day back to back................
Enjoy
