OFF TOPIC- Anti-virus question
I received an email from a friend saying his McAfee anti virus program shows my email has a virus in it. I just installed Norton Anti-virus 2002, downloaded all the updates. Did a complete system scan, nothing showed up. Any ideas what is up with this? Thanks, Ozzy.

anti-virus programs can fire false alerts, just like a radar detector, tho it is unusual. does the supposed infected email have any attachments? if so, what type r they? if it's stricktly pics, it should be ok. if ya cant figure it out, he can forward the email to me & i'll take a peek at it. i aint worried about bein infected (pretty well protected).

I agree with Freek, it's probably a false alarm.
your buddy's McAfee *should* be able to tell you *what* virus it detected.
yeah, I'm curious as to whether you had any kind of attachment, or signature's in your email too!  Maybe that old McAfee needs the update!

I'm running Norton 2002, check for updates twice a day, it works great. Nothing gets through.

Could be the Klez virus. It's a tricky bugger. It will pull a name at random from the infected machine's address book, and use that as the "From" for the email it sends. You may not have the virus, but someone you and your buddy knows does.

Another question: when I send email through Hotmail, (default mail with msn.com isp). It does not show that the mail is scanned for virus's. If I open Outlook and mail thru it it shows the mial is scanned. Does Norton 2002 work with Hotmail? Thanks, Ozzy

I have Norton antivirus Corporate edition. I have never had anything get through and infect my Computer. Sorry to hear that you may have had something happen.

nah. hotmail is a remote mail service so anything on ur machine (like norton) wont affect it. unfortunately it seems that most webmail services dont use virus scanning tools, which is incredibly stupid since so many virii r spread via hotmail and the like.
hey ozzy, speakin of hotmail, ur account is full. my email bounced. u got another address? otherwise u'll have to clean our yer account. maybe just get rid of the deleted items r whatever.

that's odd, my hotmail account at www.hotmail.com says it uses mcafee to scan all attachments.....

Hmmm... my account is only 1% full, 99% empty. I think Hotmail is full of crap. Maybe Dynojet sold them a PC3 to "hot" it up! Try again , it should have came right thru, as I never let the thing get over 35%full.
