This is a great question since I have seen a lot of broken chain guides over the years on Suzuki GS bikes running manual tensioners.Maybe Jay at APE should answer this but I will tell you what has worked for me on a mid 7 sec Suzuki running .425" lift cams.Rotate engine making sure all slack is between the intake cam and crank gear, then, with gasket in place, both mounting screws on tensioner backed out app. 1/8th inch, turn adjuster in slowly while holding the adjuster body tight to cylinder. As soon as the body starts to lift at the gasket surface-STOP.Double check the cam chain by turning engine over again, and recheck the tensioner, there should be no preload on the chain. This has worked for me with no chain or guide failures in 3 years.
