upgrading and have some questions...
hi,i have a 01 zx12...mods are bmc race,full muzzy,pc3r,emission stuff removed...
i had it on the dyno, made 169 hp,then 216 with a muzzy dry spray bar...
after the first spray run,(13 AFR),it deveoped a rod noise,so hence apart it comes..
while its apart im going to send the trans to FBG to get cut,and was thinking on doing the muzzy 1270 kit,and muzzy adj cam gears...along with new crank if needed, and rods, and all new bearings..with a slight clean up of the head, nothing fancy..
what do you guys think with doing the mods i listed, should i expect for power??
just trying to see if the $$$ is worth it...
bike is MINT,and dont want to part it,as i love riding it...
thanks,Mike

when you pulled it apart what did you find
did you really thrash a rod........that would have been evident by tthe
condition of the bearings. 216hp should NOT have thrashed a rod
when pulling an engine down there is much evidence available.
no need trying to make more than 216 HP when 216 kicked your butt.
best to know where you stand & why b4 tryin to get more
good luck

many have gotten 40 extra horse with a dry kit, so 216 is not wild hp.
a good gain but not extreme by any measure. if you bounce off the limiter
or get intermittent spray in a cylinder (sometimes toooooo much... sometimes tooooo little)
what you experienced can be the results. good luck on your build up.

when you get it back together, tune it for 12.5:1 AFR when running a dry shot like that. a normal 1270 should get 180-190 std hp(muzzy advertises 190). dont use FBG, send it to R&N Motorsports in FL. talk to Mark. a crank can be fixed by marine. if its bad, you might aswell get them to stroke it too, since you are allready getting the adjustable cam sprockets, the only thing extra you would need is the base spacer. a 1270 piston kit plus the 4.6mm crank = 1375

Call R&D. talk to Mark. ask specifically about the cutter size they use for the back cut. they use smaller ones which is more costly for them, and takes more time, but the end result is a lot less material removed from the gear which makes it much stronger than what other guys do

Can't you fellas run just about anything in Canada without overheating!
I think 1270 or 1290 would be great! Or just pick up some bearings and go with it!
Stock is still good! If you have deep pockets, 1427! An easy 215-220HP, no bottle to fill.

yes Karl, R&D (typo) srry for any confusion :oops
you can spray a big stroker, or a 1287 too. after i figure out my problem with my motor ( i think a charging issue was the root of it) ill be stepping up the jets in the fogger system for next season. 60 worked great, gonna try 80
no over heating problems to date. even on full nitrous passes. i have a muzzy fan on a manual switch, but i think the biggest thing was getting ALL the air out of the system.
just something to watch for. i had to fill my 2 pound bottle after every pass. i used about a pound every time, and even if half a bottle is up to pressure, it wont hold pressue for the full pass... not even half a pass. every time i tried to get 2 runs out of a bottle i was down on mid mph (compared to another nitrous pass) and way down on mph at the big end. im switching to a 5 pound bottle and mounting it on the swingarm. hopefully that will let me get 2 runs out of a bottle lol (no fast n the furious comments plz)
