Stock Pipe Mods !
Rather than Spend the big bucks on a pipe...
I put a tune-up on the stock ZX12 Titanium unit.
2 small allen bolts hold the muffler cover...
Then 4 nuts hold the muffler to the header,
1 nut holds the muffler to the rear foot peg.
With the muffler off you'll see the converter,
drill it out with a holesaw then a sawzall.
With that part out I started the bike, (loud)
I also made a pass on it to blow it out.
If you look in the muffler you'll see that it has a lot of little holes in the inlet, & 2 small holes going to the outlet.(sewing machine sound, with little air flow.)
I drilled every other hole & some straight through the center plate inside the muffler, and a few more at the top from the inlet side.
After cleaning out the shavings I re-mounted the muffler, not loud at all, no more sewing machine sound & it flows loads of air volume.
It still looks stock on the out side, but if you look into the out let you will see a few more holes that will push more volume to the outlet, & yes the bike does perform better !
I took it to a track that I could only get 180 to 185 mph before I had to shut down, with the muffler off I went 190 to the same shut off spot & realy had to put on the binders, with the muffler mods done I made the same pass thinking that it would still do 190 and to my suprise I went over 195 before I hit the binders at the same point, boy did I run out of distance for breaking !
It's amazing what an extra 15 mph. will do.

I would assume that the work listed above is the prep work for reinstalling the defective equipment. Afterall any modification of that equipment is afterall against the law. Hopefully the parts and pieces will be delivered for their installation sometime in the future.

Congrats and welcome to 2 1/2 years ago.
I always recommend that mod to those who want a *slipon* type muffler. The stock "bazooka" polishes up nicely and keeps noise to a minimum. Problem with the stock exhaust, other than weight, is that it chokes the bike at higher rpms...which you have obviously found out!  But $ for $, exhuast replacement is the best mod for power!

Redbull....curious on how many miles were on your 12 before you decided to do this??
I've got over 7000 miles on my 02, and the stock exhaust has gotten progressively louder the more miles I ride on it. A lot of friends I've riden with all notice that the pipe is getting a lot louder.

I cut the pipe off, then put on a Micron Serpent. All in all, the Serpent is ridiculously loud.......which is good.

I have the Nikko Racing pak on my 12. Supposedly it changes the fuel curve and advances the timing (I think).
Would tweaking the timing interfere with the box? What if I had a power commander? Would I tweak the timing using that?
Where would I go to begin research on this?
Any help for this dumbass is appreciated...

Been there & done that! None of the suggested mods are worth doing except removing the CAT and going for a full exhaust or slip on. The stock can is worthless & canot be modified to produce more power! Trust me!
