Oil filter for 12R vs Kaw.1100
Yeah, I know already that this will sound lame, but I didn't get the answer I was looking for at BuyKawasaki.com.
Does anyone know if any Kaw. 1100 oil filter will fit upon the 12R?? (like the front sprocket does, and who knows what else)
The filter for the yr 2000 1100cc looks like an old-school 2-piece design! like a filter in a canister/holder or something!
I realize the engines are way different, but I was hoping for Kawasaki to maybe be re-using some engine tooling to save $$$$.
Thanks!

Nope! My ZZR1200, the ZRX1200, and the ZX11 all use the same basic oiling system. The ZX6R, 9R and 12R share the same oiling system/filter.

swft, what filter does your ZZR1200? Is it the 1072? The 1072 replaced the good ole "fits damn near everything" 1063 (in other words the 1063 is superseed by the 1072). The 1063 was the OEM standard for the 7R and I believe it was for the 6R, 9R, EX500 and 11 too. When the 12R first arrived, the 1063 was also a KHI approved substitute when the 12R specific 1070 was not yet available.
Besides the 1070 that came on my bike, I've always used the less expensive 1063. Now that the 1072 has replaced the 1063, that is what I use. If find it a tad funny (and unfair) that KHI approved the 1063 as a substitute instead of just using the 1063 in the first place. The 1063 was slightly larger then the 1070, but "oil filter space" has never been an issue with the 12R.
The new 1072 is just about the same size as the 1070 and I figured that they'd drop the 1070 from the filter line and just use the 1072. The 1063 was just one of several filter part numbers that was replaced by the 1072. I just would like to know why they still have the 1070 and why they think it worth so damn much?
From everything I've heard, the filtration and flow capabilities are no better on the 1070 then any other filter in the KHI line. There might be minute differences in their construction, but it doesn't seem to make it filter out smaller particles or have better flow rate. IMHO, I just think the 1070 is a scam on 12R owners.

Hey RedElk! The filter is a cartridge type, like that found in the ZX11. It is not a screw on type filter. Instead, you remove the center bolt, drop filter and housing.

Here's the pic from the buykawasaki web site. Note how there are two oil pumps!

Considering how much crap comes in the airbox, and the amount of oil oozing out of the various wires etc. along with the oiling issues at high speed, high crankcase pressures....... I would tend to beleive redelks comments. Probably a bunch of hype about the filter!
Sometimes I get the feeling that Harley and Kawasaki have gotten together in lieu of Suzuki!!

ARGH, swft! So, does that mean you use those "ATV" filters? Just kiddin'! Actually, I almost wish the 12R filter set-up was like that. It would make it a hell of a lot easier to inspect for the unwelcomed warning of "foreign matter", like chunks of metal and such.

That is a benefit of the canister filter. And as I pointed out to Swft the other night, the filter set up on the 11 allowed you to change oil and filter without removing half of the fairings!!
