guy in socal area was riding this weekend, some idiot in yellow pickup truck (oncoming) swerves into hislane and stays there, at 70 mph or so, guy barely gets off road before the idiot passes him, finger held high.
calls police, and they are like "oh well you musta pissed him off"
if it had been me, i woulda called again and asked for supervisor (on off chance i didnt chase the SOB down)
but come on at least LIE to the guy and say you'll send someone out to check it over. to show indifference to an OBVIOUS safety issue like that, yet write tickets for 50/45 for revenue, is a waste of taxpayer money.
again i have no issue with the ones that are out there trying to make it safe.
but georgia highway patrol were doing the revenue thing monday, not trying to slow traffic down, just shooting people from hidden places for the tickets.
there are places i have seen where the police will run on the highway, usually cruising about 5 over or so, trafic holds to that or slower pace, and you get 2 things, one everyone is on best behavior, and 2 the guy is doing something PROactive. this enhances road safety, and is fine in my books.
jim-bob and billy-jean sitting in their cars on the top of the bridge with jay-lee and john-boy on highway onramp waiting for someone to drive by are a waste of taxpayer money. it accomplishes nothing other than bad publicity, ticket revenue, and another wasted shift
while i was annoyed by the graham county sherrif last month who stopped me, it was not for the ticket, but the asshole attitude the entire time. at nopoint did i mouth off or do anything but be polite, but he was cocksucker #1 the entire time.
o well, sorry, i just got pissed off reading about the guy almost getting smashed up and being told basically "oh well live with it"

Worm, that is what I like to hear, the same ticket book you got 3 years ago. Running red lights, blowing through stop signs (not just a slow roll),following too close and dangerous shit like that deserve a ticket and that is what they should be for. But the occasional wheelie endangering no one (except thyself) shouldn't be such a big deal.

...slug...the difference between the yellow-truck incident and the the billy-jean-bob on the the on-ramp is this: a cop is not at the yellow truck scene to take immediate action, and three cops are at the on-ramp scene to take immediate action...
...say what you guys want about where the cops are when you need them, about the alleged revenue generation, or even get pissed off about something you heard or read...I have said it before: the signs are posted (and it is the state's and fed's desire that motorists will abide by them), a warning will slow you down or encourage you to abide by the rules for the moment (and you'll smile cuz' ya' got away with it again...this time ), and if its one thing we all understand, my money is my money unless I give it up through my own volition (not to be confused with 'violation' )...
...whether you like the last statement or not, fines and other monetary penalties are what we all understand (but not agree with) no matter what the reason...its enough to 'keep us in line'....
...I really don't know how much revenue is generated through traffic fines, but I find it hard to believe that the fines are a major or even a main source of revenue for any department, city, or state as some people might believe (somebody go find out so we can put this revenue debate to rest..and be factual about the pie chart)...
...and if it were indeed revenue motivated instead of safety motivated (safety for the majority, not us hi-perf hooligans), then you would think they could do a better job of making sure that a motorist would be stopped for a violation ie, not posting enough signs to remind motorist what the speedlimit is...
...but the signs are there to remind us, aren't they?...and when we took the test for our driver's license, there was info about the maximum speed limit in our state, wasn't there?...
...so, did the cop actually say, "Oh well you musta pissed him off", or is that the motorcyclist's interpretation of what the cop said and his attitude?...or is it your interpretation?...has anyone followed up with the cop and ask him or his supervisor if that statement was made?...
...I don't know about how the police agencies in your neck of the woods work, but in mine, when there's a complaint by a passing or involved motorist of reckless driving, dangerous driving, or speeding, it is broadcasted to be on the lookout with the info that was provided...
...and the search goes as man-power permits, number of hi-priority calls, or until it is determined that the violator cannot be located...moving violators are difficult to catch when you're out of position...
...the bottom line is that none of us were at the scenes except for the driver of the yellow truck and the motorcyclist, then later, the motorcyclist and the cop he reported the incident to...
...so how can we truely qualify and quantify our statements or comments about something we weren't present at?...I think we can't, but we can have our opinions about what we read or heard...
...the problem is, some people express their opinion as fact...or some people read other peoples' opinions as fact of the incident as it occurred...and so the inflamation of emotion starts or continues with cops-and-what-they do vs. the-rest-of-the-world...
...I can tell you facts about cop work from a cop's perspective, and I can tell you stuff about hi-perf mentality because I'm both: a cop and a life-long hi-perf freak...I can qualify and quantify both aspects of this seemingly opposite sides of the spectrum...
...hey, about this cop vs. the-rest-of-the-world debate...I'm not here to hate...I'm here to educate ...we're all adults here...we know the rules...we do with it as only we will do...but we must be prepared to reap what we sow and to take responsibility for our actions, good or bad ...
...now, go take yer' chances and try your best to be safe while you're doing it...your experience with the cop who conducts the traffic enforcement stop on you may vary...may it be a safe and positive one for the both of yaz'!!!

Good thing we were beginning to worry.
I think the thing that pisses me off most is the artifically low speed limits that are set in some places. The limits are supposed to be set by an engineering study. Also traffic cops should be the first ones to see if the limit is too low or high, or a light is too long or short, and find a direct way to report it and get action. Ask most about that stuff and you get a deer in the headlights look. As for where is a cop when you need one??? One of two places, out giving a ticket or at Krispie Kreme Actually I would like to see them halve the NHP and train those guys to be real cops and fight real crime, there is plenty of it, just their presence would deter alot. There is no reason to see 5 NHPs on a 5 mile stretch of road. Tell me wouldn't you rather see a guy in a patrol car making sure you and yours are safe than some schmuck out on a lonely road giving out tickets??? That is what I pay taxes for, not to see dozens of fat asses setting up fake construction zones, speed traps on safe places etc. Although I do like the drunk driver checkpoints.
I'm just venting a bit and it is not directed at worm. Although this Harley sissy boy thing is a bit disturbing

Speaking of someone running someone off the road...A couple of years ago when I first got my 12 I was heading up Virginia City highway and got behind a shit brown Subaru doing 10 under. I waited for a safe place to pass (double yellow but...), signaled and went to pass as soon a I did this guy swerves to try to run me off the road, I mean way over. I saw what he was doing and swerved and gassed it and was gone and out of danger. I got to VC and found a Sheriff and told him the deal, because if I were on something slower I would have been toast. The cop said it was probably some Harley type (hmmm) and would watch out for him.
A week later I was coming into work and saw a shit brown Subaru with a Storey (VC) county sticker and I see him pull into a coffee house so I pull in behind and wait to see where he goes. I follow him to ...MY works parking lot. I think to myself " No way it must be someone else" so I go into the engineering building, but I still want to see who it is so I wait a bit. The guy come in and sees me looking at him (my boss was standing beside me by now also a bike rider) and the guy asks me " Ted, are you alright?" I tell him (and my boss) the story. He said it wasn't him and we all went to work. About ½ an hour later the guy comes up and says he lied and it was him and he was just tired of motorcycles passing him all the time. Now the guy has to listen to my crap for a half an hour (because I am 4 engineering levels above him) about how he may have killed or hurt a fellow employee and that the cops were looking for him etc, blah, blah, blah. Hehe Later I found the cop up at VC, told him the story and he thought is was great and was going to tell the other cops about it..

yeah, i remember that story. sad that it happened in the first place, but i like the outcome! ya give a human face to the "ungodly motorcyclist" the fuck tried to kill & all of a sudden they dont feel so justified & good about themselves anymore. i'll bet that guy never pulls that shit again. especially since he fessed up. that actually musta taken some serious balls.
i finally snapped a year or 2 ago & stopped cursing to myself when i see that kind shit. i decided to actually do something about it from now on. i wait till i get an opportunity to talk to the person & tell it like it is, without swearing, as factual as possible. seems to have a real effect. SEEMS to. who knows what happens once i leave. prolyl jsut dismiss me. but i'll bet the incident still stays in the back of their head.

...I would've loved to have given the guy a taste of my G.I.Joe action-kung-fu-grip on his pencil-neck...you know, just to show him how scared I was and how tight I had to grip my handlebar in fear ...what an asshole....well, yeah, I wish I could, and, no, he's not worth it...but you get the idea....still an asshole....

Ted G I'd had to say ok and ask the bloke out to the pub for a beer. No hard feeling's, After i'd got him drunk, I'd messed him up bad. And told him he fell down the stair's.
Then if he was married I'd had a friend of mine that can get any women to do his ole lady. And made sure I'd given him a ride home to see it.
Then I'd, really put the screw's to him at work till he got fired.
I'm not vengefull I just get even

Here is the deal, he has to face me on a regular basis. I was always polite and civil. He almost hangs his head each time he sees me. I also have the final say about most of the firmware that leaves here, so that means he is at my mercy. It is called slow torture.
