need some help with troubleshooting

well I washed the bike as usuall and was carefull not to flood every thing. I planed a drive around the trail and for some reason the bike would start for a few seconds then die. I cranked it over and it will rev to 4k for a few sec then die any ways after 10 min it worked its way out and we went for our ride. 40 min into the drive same thing but this time left me standed. The bike is getting plenty of fuel its like as soon as it starts reving to 4- 8 k then just like putting kill switch on . Cuts out imediatly. There wasnt much we could do on the side of the road with no tools but i did take the seat off and the conector to the rectifier was full of oil. Dumped all that out and I disconected the neutral saftey switch but still nothing . Of course at this time the battery was dead.

Any thoughs on where to start or similar problem before I rip her apart ?

thanks 2000 zx12
