My bike went down today!! Things could have been worse!

I had my wife on the back and I was parking the bike. I pulled into a spot ( beside the grass) to park and I went to put the kick stand down and the bike kept going. Once the 12 was in motion to lay down no matter what I did she just kept going. Yep I dropped her!

My wife rolled off the bike into the grass (down a small hill) so she was O.K. But I heard a cracking sound as my baby hit the pavement. The Kawi Gods were with me I had no noticable damage but She leaked a little Oil out of the clutch cover where the clutch cable bar goes in. (The seal has been bad for a week or so) Since I noticed the bad seal last week I've been keeping a close watch on the oil levels. I'm still waiting on my seal to come in the mail.

However the bike started right up but the oil light stayed on for a mile or so! Is this normal (for those who have had thier bike on it's side) I was wondering if the oil pump might be on the way out or is this common? The oil levels never read low but I added a little oil just for safe measure. What do you guys think ? I have not reved hard or anything else since.

If you run the bike with the "oil" light on, you're asking for trouble. The light tells you it has no measureable oil pressure, it is not a signal to slow down or stop when it's convenient.
Hope you didn't hurt it, but that's a long time to run it with the light on.

If the oil pick up gets out of oil it takes a while untill it bleeds it self. Just like when Your changing oil. To make it faster, loosen the oilfilter and shut the motor down when You see oil coming from the oil filter. You really shoudn't ride with the oil light on - if anything only let it idle for a while. BUT I would recommend the oil filter trick!

Thanks for the advice! I guess riding it was a pretty stupid thing to do with the oil light on! Being a noob can be a hard journey! Hell it could have been a very expensive one at that! If there is a next time I will do the oil filter trick! Thanks again!

I cannot declare Newbie but when i was having problems with the Power Commander in Florida I was leaving a Walgreens with my wife and just taking off the engine quit and we fell over like Laugh IN on the Tri-Cycle. Also got lucky and did no damage! The last time it fell over I was closing the gate and it fell over and broke the foot peg bracket! No ride that day!
