Here is some truthful advise...Sell your 12 for whatever you can get for it, put all the $$$ together and buy a 14 and dont touch the motor!!!

My buddy put between 5-6 grand into the stage 1 turbo on his Busa and the Busa is the cheepest bike to turbo. But he is turning 8.81@162 with a hand clutch so I guess it's worth it.

BobbyD,
I gotta agree with CrotchRocket on this one. For the record, I'm not a '12 basher'. If you are looking at getting into racing, you may want to consider a zx14. There are a lot of reasons in my book, but the clutch durability and ease of launch of the 14 are just completely insane. I guess what I'm saying is that the 14 will be much easier to launch & possibly be more cost effective, and reliable(clutch) than a 12.
Dak, you're busa partner is putting down slower #'s than a stock motored zx14...
---Smokin's #s:
Best 1/4 mile pass stock motor 8.77@ 154
Best 1/4 mile on a 30 shot 8.53 @ 163
I'm not saying it can't be done, but a 14 is easier. With that said, you can never make a 14 look as Sexii as a ZX12.
Either way, Good luck with you endeavor.

Now I know I am opening a BIG can of worms by replying to this.
First off the stage 1 Busa went 8.74 twice this evening at 164-165 mph with weak 1.51-1.52 60 fts. This is his FIRST SEASON EVER RACING A TURBO BIKE AND 2ND SEASON EVER RACING PERIOD! Like me. He is much better that I.
We have been to several bike events over the past two years and have been eluded by these stock motored 8 sec 14's. Had a big meet back in May at Martin 131 dragway and saw some of the 14's go 9 teens to 30's. With 60 fts in the 1.39-1.49 area. I know that a certain black 14 has went around 9 flat but it has pistons, head work ect and a light rider in the 160 lb range pulling off low 1.4 to high 1.3 60 ft's at about 148 mph. Saw a blue 14 go 9.42 tonight with a 1.48 60 ft. Another 14 went 30-40's all night. These are all decent to good riders that can 60 foot well in 70 degree weather with low humidity and a tailwind!!!
I am not saying that there are no 8 sec 14's out there. Put Schnitz or Gadson on one and maybe but it IS NOT THE NORM!! Never seen one in person! Now don't hate me or I hope smokin does not get offended but the way I see it is a NORMAL 14 that is extended 4-6" with a good pipe (Brocks or sidewinder),geared, PC,On crack fuel usually goes 9.20-9.40's when a 1.4 something 60 ft can be achieved. We all know some machines are stronger than others and it all comes down to the rider but lets take a poll to see what the NORM is.
Don't we always say there was only 1999-2000 Busa that magicly beat the 12????
By the way. Insted of posting Smokin's #'s what are yours????

No numbers here. Got my Texas Mile #'s though. I race heads up with anyone who wants to run. I don't have times because the local 'track' is actually a poorly preped runway for a small airport and the bastids charge $10 bucks to run, but don't put up times, just a tree. That's my excuse for not having times. Now, there has been a new track open up, supossed to be real nice, but I'm still overseas until November.
As far as the can of worms, I wasn't talking trash when I posted up Lee's numbers, I just forgot the I have not heard of any 'normal' folks doing 8's on a stock motor either, but I don't believe a guy thats starting out dragracing is gonna be pulling any 8's or low 9's either.
I still stick to my guns on the fact that someone who is looking at getting into racing would be better served by considering a 14. Just considering the strength of the 14s clutch, ease of launch, price on used 14's, etc. Not to stir shit in the 12 forum, but there's no way in hell I'd drop $3K on a 2000 zx12, not when I could get a bone stock/slightly modded14 in the neigborhood of $7-$8K.
If any of you 12 guys took this in any way shape or form as an insult, you don't know me very well & I have no intentions of bashing a bike that I still absolutely Love. And for you guys that are racing the 12, God Bless you! I've seen some fast, fast guys on 12, but I was never one of them.

I completely agree with you. The thing I liked about the 12 was that I was the 'underdog'(in their eyes ) everytime I raced. I was actually considering buying my 12 back from the fella I sold it too...but the dumb-ass totalled it. Some people just can't handle the power of the 12.
