Leathers: What are you wearing? I'swuz jus' curious whut all y'all wer wearin' fer leathers and if'n U lyked dem or not.
I've gotta Dianese jacket that I just LOVE because of it's light weight. Definitley not for the real cold weather, but it's really durable and held up really well on a recent pavement excursion to boot! (albeit in the rain)
The pants are Fieldsheer. Really had to get them first, long ago for drag racing, while I was using a friends leather jacket before I got the Dianese.
The Fieldsheers are a bit thick and bulky, but they do the job I guess. Vented crotch and back of knee with that 'accordian' look at the small of the back, top of the knee and calf area.
Gloves are Alpinestar's. I like them too, but the pinkie finger is a little on the small side. (hmmm, maybe it's just me....)

Okay, What do I win???? LOL
As far as leather - I Had a Teknic two pc. (Till they cut my leather pants up). Plan to buy another pair.
Very in-expensive and good quality...believe me.....I tested them!!!! 100 mph crash and NO road rash.... Jacket is still in great shape!!! Actually - they were one of my two choices that offered female sizes!!! ____________

I have two sets of full leathers, Vanson and Joe Rocket. The Vansons are softer and more comfortable. The Joe Rocket suit is Nuclear bomb proof. Both have been proven in highspeed get offs. Swear by both.
I have 4 other Vanson jackets, and frankly three other Joe Rocket leather Jackets along with two first gear leather jackets. I also have Joe Rocket Hustler leather pants, and a set of Joe Rocket Bulldog leather pants.
Along with the leathers I also have a Areostich Roadcrafter one piece suit, First Gear Kiminjaro Coat and pants (great in the wet stuff, absolutely zero leaks) and a new Joe Rocket fully perfed synthetic (leather sholders and sleeves) coat. Oh yeah I have my Kawasaki ZX12 leather coat, and My Team Suzuki jacket, and my Honda leather jacket.
Obviously, I have way to much leather!!
I have a size 52 Vanson leather coat that I would probably sell or just about give away to someone in need of that size.

I have vanson perf. top and bottom with armor. I'm a big guy, so they were the only ones I could easily find.
Very happy with them.

My very first set of leathers were a 2 piece Hein Gericke made for Kawasaki. They were red with black and white trim and had "Kawasaki" embroidered at an angle all the way across the back and a smaller "Kawasaki" on the upper left front. I also had "S. McCoy" embroidered on the front and back.
I started off with just the jacket until I went a visited a fellow employee who hit a dog while on his Intruder. After what his legs looked like (he was wearing blue jeans), I quit riding until the accompanying leather pants I ordered came in. They were kinda pricey at the time, but they did match my black and red EX500 and I just looked too cool (whatever ). I still have the jacket, but the crotch in the pants just blew out and no one locally would sew them back. Just as well. By that time, I couldn't fit in the pants anyway and now I'd be dreaming if I thought I could still fit in the jacket.
When I got my '97 7R, I bought an AGV Rage one piece. I am now on my third set of the exact same style of leathers. The second set I bought because my dealer's parts manager had ordered them for this guy who never came back and got a great price on them (and I was gettin' a tad big for my first set). I got my third set because AGV was discontinuing that color size as well as any size above a 52 (European) and I wear a 56.
Paid $290 for what will be my last set of AGVs. Not that there's really anything wrong with them. They are fairly comfortable, but I haven't seriously "tested" them in a crash at any kind of notable speeds. The first two pair lasted for about 40K miles of rain, sweat and sleet before things like leg zippers and such would start to give out.
Since I don't plan on going on a "crash" diet anytime soon and I can't afford custom made stuff from Vanson, Bates or Dianese, it boils down to the fact that my next set will be coming from Joe Rocket. I'll be sticking with the impractical one piece set. Their "moderately" price set looks real nice, BUT... I refuse to buy any kind of protective apparel (leathers, boots, gloves, helmet, etc.) that is named after a friggin' WRECK! (i.e. "Highside"). Even though the "Speedmaster" MSRP is $300 more and I'd really be perfectly happy with the "other" less expensive version, I just can't do it. Bad Karma. It'd be like buying a helmet from Shoei called "Brain Damaged". NOT!

I've been looking at Vanson for a leather jacket, around $600 for the Cobra one I want. To ZHooligan and others, anything negative you dont like about Vanson? I know guys who have had their Vanson for many years, still going strong.
I hear it takes a while to break them in. I just dont like the big yellow sticker on the shoulders of an all black jacket.

custom Vanson, 2 piece, full zipper, perfs everywhere. NO yellow ads on shoulders. Wouldn't trade 'em. ____________

The Vanson stuff takes a while to break in and get comfortable. Then it becomes an old friend. The double front zippered full leathers is easier to get in, but for some reason Vanson forgot to put an inside pocket on that model. Makes it harder to keep track of your medical form if you are using them for racing.

Joe Rocket Speedmaster suit for when I need it, Joe Rocket full perf Blaster jacket and pants. Very good quality, may not be the same quality of Vanson or Bates but the price isn't what they cost either. None of them are cool enough for me.
I've trashed a Alpine Stars P1, it kept me from being trashed instead, torn up but useable. Apline Stars GP Plus gloves held up really well in the same crash. (I can't get gloves big enough for me either, but not the pinky)

Vanson Technical two piece. Since I'm such a tall, lanky MF I had to have them both custom tweaked.
I had a reflective patch sewn on the sleeves. They are black and silver. Much nicer than yellow. Doesn't cost much more considering the purchase price.

Custom Vanson 2 piece. With the best protection Vanson had (soft Kevlar). My suit probably saved my life when I crashed last year.

none. bein a veggie i try to avoid leather. used a cheap 2pc non-zipping-together cordura suit (teknic i think?) fer the last 3 years and altho comfy fer the most part, dont offer all that much protection. & i will never buy something that doesnt zip together again. my back is exposed at speed just like a tshirt rider. i'm pickin up a 1pc Cycleport kevlar suit in the next few days which should b a vast improvement.

jr highside suit, saved my hide
their newer bottom end stuff (the ones named after wreckes i reckon) are less than adequate.
guy on yzf forum just bought 2 jr jackets, and both ripped when he tightened the waist strap.
5 days old...
anyway another friend who does extensive crash testing of leathers also had highside suit, the new one (2001) he crash tested and said they were less than adequate. (ended up with good deal of rash, on top of the sprained parts) funny because he swore by his first set (a 99 model) that saved his hide 7 times. (yes i said 7 SEVEN) he goes through bikes faster than i wear out shoes...
anyway my current jr suit has almost 25k miles on it, and starting to show its age and abuse now. soon will get new stuff, but unless it is their expensive suit, wont be jr
alpinestars sp1 gloves, very nice once broke in, (soak them, ride till they are dry, broken in ;P )
alpinestars gptech boot, as many miles as the leather, showing wear on soles where i drag toes occasionally. they will be changed out this winter as well
as far as kevlar goes, i think i have read somewhere that full kevlar suits generate a LOT of heat while sliding on pavement, causing more damage then they prevent (3rd degree burns SUCK) i dont know how reliable this is, but i see most racers stick with the moo-hide.
