Hacking up the stock exhaust

So i read about gutting the cat out of the stock pipe etc. But i was curious. Has anyone basically ran a 2 in hole saw down the middle of the thing? Like gutted all the baffling and such. Just curious to see if anyone has actually done it. Is it too big of a back-pressure loss to be viable without a tune?

Really I'm just flat broke right now, but have a garage full of tools and nothing but time. I've had Two people over the last two days try to merge into me when i was cruising by them for like 30 seconds. I can't blame them tho...half the time I cant hear my damn bike...

I wanted to chop it down, but i think its gonna be a tough task being titanium and such. So i was thinking of just gutting it and re-designing the inside with the mesh strait through with packing surrounding it.

I'm new here too but I'll give you my opinion. Resist the temptation to cut up the muffler. If your bike is running well don't mess with it. You could end up with a mess you can't afford to straighten out. Wait 'til you have some $$ then cut away or get a good bolt-on muffler. I know that's not what you want to hear, just my opinion, that's all.

I had read that one, but its not quite what im looking to do. Or perhaps it just stops too soon :P.

I want to gut the cat, and the majority of the baffling to make it nearly strait through.

Low end isn't too much of an issue for me as riding city im not going fast, and riding canyons im always above about 7k. Will hollowing out everything accept the structurally important things in this cause any big problems?

i guess what i wanna do is basically, grab a perforated tube like you normally see in mufflers, wrap it in packing and weld it inside my stock can. Of course after gutting the whole thing out.

My question is primarily without a PC how bad will this affect my bottom. And is it going to be to hard on my engine.

Its basically gonna be something like shown in this pic.

but one tube, and in the stock can.

I gut mine like that. The sound is really loud compare to stock. Nothing compare to muzzy but you can tell there is something done to it.

Did that to mine back in 2000, the bike ran fine, a little more peppy and I didn't need a map. If you r still using the stock header, then you r not improving much for the change. PS, I had to use a braising torch to cut it out however, as the metal is extremely hard.
