If I understand this article the writer is saying that despite the fact that Hayden has won the most races this year, can and will very likely tie or set the all time single season win record , ran competitve with the WSB boys at Laguna etc. and all of this means that Bostrom is rider of the year?
Following the writers logic, I would assume that the same holds true for Collin Edwards. Afterall, Baylis is riding a Ducati.
At what point does this end? Carmichel wins the #1 plate on a Kawasaki and it is the bike! Honda then buys the #1 plate holder and Carmichel wins the #1 plate on a Honda therefore it is Carmichel's talent and not the bike?
I guess using the writers logic you need to be the guy who comes in second or third to be the best. Freddie Spencer, Mick Doohan, and Rossi are lucky chumps that were successful only because they rode HONDAS?
I certainly believe the two riders (Hayden and Bostrom) are good competitors. But unless my memory is failing me, I beleive that Hayden won the 600 championship, then left the class (rode in a couple of races in 2000. It would appear that Hayden will win the Superbike class this year. Then perhaps he will leave the AMA to go overseas. That should give Bostrom a chance to win next year or the following year. This is of course hoping that Kurtis Roberts doesn't get his shit together and allow him to beat Bostrom as he did in the 600 class the year Nickey left the class open.

well, i'd say the author does have a valid argument, but he seems to gloss over a bit on the fact that hayden's machine isnt doing all that well for it's other riders. if eric has a substandard machine, apparently so does nicky. besides, the 7 may be old, but it's also very mature & well developed, whereas the rc, tho hardly new anymore, is bound to be more of an unknown than the 7. so i'd say it prolly comes close to evening out. would be nice to get them together fer some kinda magazine article & have them switch bikes.
but i suspect that a large part of why the author leans that way is cause nicky is easy to hate. he's damn near a little kid yet, he has that stupid smirk on his face all the time, and he's SO DAMN GOOD! i fer one fall victim to that trap myself. i get ticked every time i see his face. it's just annoying. but i'm sure it's an annoyance of jealousy as much as anything else. i gotta give him his dues; he's fuckin good.

I get ticked off at Nicky because A: My rider isn't winning and B: He reminds me of when I was a young racer and that's something I can never recover. I wish him well though, and most of all I hope he is appreciating life and soaking all this up. It's all so fleeting.

That is why I like to give these guys credit. It all happens sometimes a lot faster then we all recognize. Look at Ben Bostrom. Last year he looked as if this year would be his. Now there is aquestion on where he will even be next year.
It is also what makes Duhamel such a unique character. Everytime we think he is washed up, boom he wins!!
Racing at their level is amazing. I'm just glad we get to root for guys like the Bostroms, and Haydens. And I don't have to root for the Roberts boys!!
