old Dunlops and new Bridgestones
Got 5000 miles out of my stock Dunlops on my 02 12. Nearly everyone on this board swears by the Bridgestone B010's so I had those put on today, replaced both the front and rear.
WOOOOOOWWWWW!!!!!!!!
They are awesome!!! I really saw an immediate difference, after riding for so long on those Dunlops. I even thought the braking was better, the front tire felt a lot better no matter how hard I applied the brakes.
And all that low speed wobbling that was talked about on another thread, well that's all gone too. I feel more confident in the cornering now, the Battlax's just feel so sticky all the time. Seem to get hot a LOT quicker than the Michelin Pilot Sports and they stay hot too.
I took them out during the rain also, and they handled quite nicely. I might go as far and say just as nice as my Metzlers on my old 750R.
Just the fact that I got 5000 miles out of my stock 208's should tell how I ride my Ninja. I dont do wheelies or any of that cool stuff, just ride my 12 as much as possible. So at that rate, how many miles should I get out of these new B010's??

I have heard of some guy's getting 5000 to 8000 miles....really depends on the rider.
I am on about 5,000 miles right now and plenty left!!!
You gotta wear the whole tire out!!! NO chicken strip's!!!LOL

I would expect even an AVON would feel better than a worn out tire!! New tires should make you feel good.
Personally if it were me, I'd buy a new 208 to replace the one you have plugged. But then I am a Dunlop guy. If you are going to get a new set, I would suggest you go to a 190 or 180 rear. The bike handles better. And for the budget minded people both are cheaper then the 200. I run a 180 on my 12. I love it.

thing is,
that i suspect the low speed wobble that myself and many others have noticed, is a direct result of the tread pattern of the 208's. i'm happy to try out a proven winner in the 010's. i do like teh look of the 200, does anyone have a problem with 200 or is the 190 just that much better?

i seem to be in the minority, but i havent had all that much luck with the 010's. they'v performed fine & all, but they seem to be less sticky than the 207's were. they definitely take longer to get to temp & are harder to keep there. i think that may explain why they dont seem as sticky. i just gdont get them totally up to temp. especially fer braking. i'v had several stoppies end with a sliding front when the 207 would stay nice & planted. in the 010's defence, i'm prolyl riding harder than w my last tires, so that may explain my complaints about grip.

jason370:
I ordered my tires from mawonline.com which I do not recommend if your in any kind of hurry, and they have the absolute worst customer service ever. Dont get me started. But they were the cheapest by far. I always tell my friends if you dont mind the wait (usually 2 weeks from submitting your order) then their worth it. See, they claim they have it in stock, but really they order it as soon as you submit your order, then they ship it. But again, they were the cheapest. They beat my dealer's best cost by over $100.
I kept the stock sizes, that's a 200 on the rear. I thought about going to a 190, but I felt I should keep what Kawi had on it as far as size is concerned.
Here is a copy of the receipt of what I ordered, with prices and shipping:
19130 BRIDGESTONE BT010 120/70ZR17 FRNT 79.95
19171 BRIDGESTONE BT010 200/50ZR17 REAR 130.95
Tax: 0.00
Freight: 25.03
Handling: 8.44
C.O.D. fee: 0.00
Total: 244.37
* GROUND *
And as far as labor is concerned, my dealer charged me after taxes about $72 to put both tires on and to balance them.
Hope that helps.

I cant share your same enthusiasm in regards to Dunlops. I just never really liked them from day 1 of owning my 12. I've always ran Metzlers here in the rainy state of WA on my previous bikes, for they seem to really do well in the rain. I could go on forever about how good those Metzlers were in the rain versus those Dunlops. Just my mere opinion. This is the first set of Bridgestones I've ever owned and riden on, and I just dont remember being this happy about my tires from day 1 as I was when I got these B010's.
On another note, in regards to your recommendation of dropping the rear tire to a 190 or 180...if you do this, are you keeping the stock size on the front tire or changing it also? Does a 180 handle better than a 190? Will this help or hurt in the rain (I know your in WA also)?
Thanks.
And it may sound dumb, but I sure like how big that 200 looks on the back of the 12. Freakin' huge is the only comment I hear by people.

I noticed when I took the stock 208 front tire off that it was cupping really bad. The dealer said your front tire should last through 2 rear tires. I've just read in magazines that the tread pattern on the front tire of the stock 208's isn't the best. My front tire, which I checked tire pressure every morning, was already cupping. That cupping was attributing to that low speed wobble, and I even felt braking was being affected also. The dealer, which I dont know how competent one should expect them to be, also said this was possible.
Those new tires really did the trick though. I read a lot on this forum, a lot more reading and learning than writing and helping out. There are a lot more knowledgeable people on this forum than me whom have been riding a lot longer than I've probably been alive. I read through the countless amounts of discussions/debate on tires, and after all that I settled on the B010's. For all the good I read about, I sure thought they were worth a try. This is for a guy whose always swore by Metzlers, but I've always had bikes that werent as heavy or fast as the 12.
And you know what, everything I read was right. I was really happy with the tires, and I just wanted to give my recommendation should anyone else feel as bad about the stock tires as I do.

Chaparral Motorsports online at www.1-800-841-2960.com has the BT010 120/70ZR 17 for $80.97 and the BT010 200/50ZR 17 for $131.97. They charge $9 per tire shipping. Grand total to your door:$230.94. They always seem to get mine to me in 3 days. (Spokane Wa). Hope this helps save you a $ or $$.

Glad you liked the 010's, Beans. They really are a great street tire. For the track, I'll stick with the Dunlops, tho. Mileage ain't much of an issue there.

I don't ride my 12 much in the rain. But my experience with the 180 goes back for years. I have no issue with riding it in the rain. And I did not change the front tire size. Set the bike to the proper sag front and rear, set your forks to the height you are comfortable with and ride.
The cupping issue is interesting. I have never experienced any kind of an issue with a Dunlop. I have experienced the cupping with Michelins. Tire pressure is usally the issue. And unfortunately, the 208 is new enough that I don't have any experience with it and I don't know if there is much info on what air pressure really does work best.

A Dunlop story from this weekend for ya.... This is the truth.. I worked this weekend at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia mounting Pirelli's/Metz's. A guy had bought a takeoff race tire a Pirelli and brought it over for us to take his Dunlop off. He was going to us it for track day... I joked with him about running them (Dunlop boat anchors) on his bike.. He had them on since they were new. They had 35 to 40 gm's of weight on them.. We mounted his takeoff used tire that was used on the track in racing conditions it took 7 mg's of weight to mount a half used up tire... Brand new Dunlop 35 to 40 mg's Used Pirelli 7 mgs... You tell me.....

The only problem with that story is the Dunlop, Michelins, Bridgestone etc. guys get to tell the same story. I've had pretty much every brand of tire on my bikes over the years. I have had some tire that required zero weights and others that needed a pound. Refused those tires ands gave them back.

The only people who have any negative issues w/ the 010's, are not running the proper tire "Cold Pressure". You should get a 10% RISE in pressure if you started off correctly cold.
Proper tire pressure should yield max milage depending on your riding style.

I noticed that what appears to be weights are on my rims now with the 010's. I dont recall them being on there with the stock tires.
What's the purpose of the weights? What do they do?

balance the tires. Just like your car tires are balanced. Cuts down on vibration and helps the tire wear evenly. Damn few tires are built perfect. So they require balancing after mounting. Of course part of the balancing issues are also sometimes related to the rim/wheel as well as the brake rotor, sprocket etc.

What are these 207's that everyone keeps referring to? The 208's are what come stock on the 12, or at least my 02 model.
Did the 207's come stock on the 00 and 01 models of the 12?
And 9700 miles off the stock tires....that's really good.
I've got about 500 miles since putting the new 010's on, and I just LOVE them!! No complaints at all!

yeah, 00 and 01 came with 207's.
and 9700miles is unreal! best i ever got was 6500km (~4000miles) out of a 207. and that was takin it pretty easy (no burnouts, very few wheelies, no drag launches). so far the 010's r wearing very well. grip is ok, tho not as phenomenal as i had expected.
