my oil pressure light came on earlier today as i waited at a stop light. i think i may have to take the oil pan off and check the pickup this weekend. stupid of me, but i started her back up and rode home with no problems, light did not come back on. it should be noted that i found an oil leak on the left side case cover and tightened it up last week. does not appear to be leaking oil anymore, and oil level seems fine... i was real hard on the clutch while riding last week, so im worried about possible debris etc. i couldnt help but think of this thread. oil light scared the shit out of me...
10/40 kawi oil and oem filter.

The latest.
I put a guage on and tested my oil pressure. At idle It makes 20 PSI. At 4000 RPM it makes 56 PSI. So, to my great relief there is no problem there. (the bike was warmed up for the oil pressure checks)
However, when I was removing the oil pressure sensor the wire snapped off. I spliced some new wiring in place. I am now thinking the wire was almost broken off, and this was causing the light to come on.
I will take it for a ride on the weekend to confirm the problem is gone as it`s raining like crazy here right now.
Thanks for all the help.

stupid of me, but i fired up the 12 today and she ran just fine over a 2.5 hour ride of varying intensity. oil light did not come on once, but i am still on my toes and will keep a watchful eye on it.

pcbunn- "it's got to be the pump"
Not so much.
Low oil pressure can easily be something other than the pump. It is the restriction to the flow caused by the bearing clearances in the system that creates the pressure. An internal leak, such as that created by excessive bearing clearances or damage, can just as easily cause low pressure especially at idle where the flow is low. ( The pressure bleeds out at the loose bearings) Also an air leak on the inlet side of the pump (bad o-ring, etc) can introduce air into the pump and cause unstable low rpm pressure.

Weird all these episodes of the oil light coming on.I'm experiencing the same thing on start up.I also have the same problem with countersteer with an oil leak at the pump housing flange.
