Went down awhile back, some kids put rolled up carpets and barricaded the road late at night, I suppose as a prank. Well after me and my buddy hit them going about 55 mph (like hitting a 10 inch curb) and my bike was flying azz over end in hot pursuit of me, and me rolling, sliding and losing skin, I didn't think it was that funny of a joke. Well that was on my CBR 954rr, I got the bike fixed and myself fixed, I rode it to back from the shop and continued to ride it for two more seasons and then sold it and purchased my ZX12R. Figure I'll warp through them this time or maybe use that extra weight and steam roll 'em. LOL. But all jokes aside... Your gonna fall and no matter what, you can't control everything out there, it wasn't on you or any stupid thing you were doing out there. So when someone hits you in a car (no fault of you) and you get jacked up pretty bad, you gonna stop driving too. Life is too short but you don't have to wait around to die, GET BACK ON THAT HORSE and HAVE SOME FUN. ENJOY... Oh and if you die riding you won't know it, all must come to an end any way... For the record 40 years old and still riding the rocket I will never cruise...
Seriously, I can't tell you what to do and noone here can either. You will have to make up your own mind and weight it all out, and if you were speeding around, drunk, or you're a play fiend, I would say give it up till you gain some respect for the bike, the speed, the road and your life. But I can tell you this, don't let some non-driving azz shatter your dream.
LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL

I had a bad accident at the JenningsGP road course a few years ago. Was riding my GSXR600 track bike and lost it when I had a bad tankslapper at the kink after turn 1. I was probably going over 130 when I went down - right into the sand. I was knocked out and broke my collar bone, foot and some ribs. Then got to ride a medivac helicopter to Jacksonville because of the injuries. It cost alot of time and money between the medical bills and healing, plus my bike was destroyed. I took a couple years off riding after that. I've since bought a zx12 and bandit 1200 and am looking to purchase another track bike. The risks are very real but I love riding so much I just can't say no!

fear is a natural reaction, its a human sense, you can have it paralize you or you can use it to your advantage.
Really there is no poll needed, he needs to answer that question for himself, fear can paralize and fuck with your confidence and your abilities. Thats all you need when you have doubt and your head'in straight towards a situation where you need to react but your frozen. I went down once it was hard, people asked are you getting back up? for me it was'nt a choice , I knew I had to get back on. I did, whats right for me.whats right for me and others may not be right for him, this choice may cost him his life should he not be ready. soul search it brother,

great thread. I've had a few get offs on the street, resulting in banged up knees, torn rotator cuff and some minor injuries. Been real lucky. But I'd think twice if I had the injuries the OPs brother suffered.

There is a guy here that lost a leg and BOUGHT a ZX12R to ride! Me. I have ridden since I was 14 and in 1997 a car hit me which caused me to go through 8 operations and walk on crutches for 3 years whil I regrew the 2 inches thay had to cut out of my left leg! Had a Tube in my chest where I gave myself Vancomycn twice a day and died once on the operating table. You Either want to ride and ride or you do not want to ride and do not ride! Then there are some people that should not ride because they do not have the concentration for it.

I was ran over my a ford F150 back in 94 near Waco Tx....the truck crushed my calf and dislocated my left knee and left ankle.....took me over a year to rehab it and get back to walking and running on my own, though it will never be 100%, I am prolly about 90% on that leg and thats as good as it will ever get.
It took me from 1994 to 2001 to get the desire to get back on a bike and ride again, then in 2002 while riding around Roebling Rd I tucked the front wheel at the end of the front straight at over 160mph.....I broke 2 ribs, and it was an eye opener for me....
In 2004 I had a guy stop in front of me on a green light in rush hour traffic, I was following too close and tucked the front of my 2002 ZX12R and slid it under the car, again I got up and walked away....but another eye opener.
A in 2005 I highsided my 2004 ZX10R down in the mountains of North Georgia, my own fault, runing bald Super Corsas on the street.....broke 2 ribs in that one as well.
in 2008 I low/high sided my 2004 ZX10R, out on Arroyo Seco Racetrack in Demmin NM. The bike and I went down in the neighborhood of 60 mph....I did manage to slow it down some after going into the kink a little too hot and over shooting the corner. The bike suffered about $700 worth of damage, fortunately not more, Except for the really hott paint job Crashtech put on it.....
My lessons in all this:
Ride whatever you are comfortable riding, when you are comfortable riding. If you are not comfortable, park it and drive your car.
Tires, Brakes, and maintence are all cheap insurance when it comes to motorcycles...I dont skimp on any of those anymore......
and its better to come in second, than crash......crashing sucks........

For the work you did it is ALMOST Impossible to get surprized because your brain was always at RACE Speed from the second you left home! When I stop riding in the streets of DC for a while I lose my edge and it takes a while to get sharp again!
Also I bet it IS Impossible for your to have a car accident because you see so much long before it can even start to happen!
