Probably the largest drawback of the 12.........
Catalyst made a light gas tank, but they were scared heavy guys might crack it.....

Really though, how much weight was saved.....
You could drop the oil cooler and save about as much......, even with all the holes drilled, and weakening everything......
lay off the ribs for a couple weeks, and you are there.........

1. i have brock & muzzy pipes, muzzy allows full plastic, better aeros for the mile
2. good eye, nox, it is a 5" ext for pegs, BUT, for a non-SW, you need to extend the mid pipe
3. madmike has bettr pix of the cut tank, but he is still en route back to iowa
here i pic where you can see a lil better

Karl, who is that on your bike? The difference between Karl and myself is Karl left the Underside of the gas tank! I had this cut down tank before most people and just laid on the frame!

See how much room between me and the frame WITHOUT The tank in the way?

Real nice picture of your bike Mr. Hill.
If you notice the guy in the white shirt and black cap....................He just told Dave O not
to bust into 200 or it would take his title away for building the fastest N/A bike at the
Texas Mile. I think that bike ran way back in 03.
There was another ZX-12 at the Mile that had a cut tank, but he still ran the full tank cover
on it. I guess just to keep the electric covered from the rain.
Mr. Hill, Ryan "Osti" is headed your way to Maxton, hope you all get to run together.

Those BROWN Leathers looked like Dave Owen and he has lost some weight! Did I see that you also painted your lock up spacer Black to hide it? That clutch cover seems to be sticking out a little farther than Usual
I will NOT be at Maxton until September or October! I have a lot to do and I am not going until the Bike and "I" Are ready to go FASSST!

JS,
in concept, my cut down tank was simple, in execution it took me a buncha time.
1. i cut the top off the tank leaving where you sit sloped slightly up, and leaving the entire bottom of the tank in place so i could use the front bolt to secure it.
2. I got some thin mild steel sheetmetal and fabbed a cover where the gas cap goes, this took time to get right.
3. luckily i got (free! thanks MadMike) really cool billet gas cap assembly by Koenig, cut a hole in the plate for it
4. made a vent tap near the cap, place right up close to the front
5. had the plate & gas cap receiver welded to the tan.
6. got an anti-rust treament for the inside tank, ran a lil tube from the vent tap up, forward, thru and then under and towards the back
7. put some 1/2" firm foam on it.
8. the gas level float etc had to go.
9. cut down my tank cover to match the bottom of the tank, put some gorilla tape over the space between the cover and the tank.
10. made a 5.5" ext for the midpipe
11. made a 5" ext for the shifter rod
12. relocated the pegs 5" back
It's not a perfect job, but the difference in riding position is great.
good luck!

My Tank has "ALL" of the sensors and I can read the Fuel amount! Holds a little over 3 gallons about 1/2 tank and uses all of the original fittings! I plan to use the Bottom of a stock tank as a mould for a Fiberglass frame cover as I now think the steel is heavy and "I" Do not need more weight!

Karl, just curious on the pegs.......
Why not just put some pegs on the swingarm......?
Guess the street pipe negates that though.......
