Disturbed Individual goes down, Mid-Ohio report

Met up with Justin Disturbed Individual from Easy's site)Saturday morning and he rode down to the races with myself and my wife. It started raining in Toledo and didn't stop til we got there. My wife and I had rainsuits, Justin didn't, he was totally soaked and my wife shoes were soaked and most of the clothes in my tank bag were wet so when we got there we spent some time in the laundry mat dring everything out. By this time it was 2pm so we decided to go the track anyway and on the way there Justin was following us and coming out of a right hander he had an impact with a minivan. Pancaked the side of it. I looked in my mirror after we got through the turn, something I ALWAYS do when someone is following and I saw Justin sliding ont he ground next to his bike. SHIT!!! We turned around and he was lying in the middle of the road. His bike partially in the ditch. He was awake and alert, had pain in his left leg and the back of his head. My wife is a nurse so she tended to him, while I went to check on the minivan people, an older couple with their 6 month old granddaughter in the car. They were fine, quite a bit shaken up but fine. Justin broke a bone in his foot, has abrasions on the back of his head and a bit of raod rash, very lucky to say the least, it could have been much worse. I and the minivan fella got his bike out of the ditch. The stator cover has a big hole in it, so all the oil drained out and he had fuel somehow come out of the bike cause the minivan driver said there was a huge ball of fire when the sparks from the bike lit the fuel on fire. Left side cosmetic damage, rearset snapped off and a few other things, not totalled though as far as I could tell.

Of course before I did all this I called 911 (again, goddamn 7th time I've had to do that and twice this year alone!) The ambulance took him to the hospital. We went to the hospital after dealing with the police who say the minivan poeple said they thought he was making it through the turn fine when at the last minute he came at them and hit them. Spent some time at the hospital making sure he was ok then left to go back to the hotel.

Justin says was good through the turn and the minivan crossed the double yellow and hit him. The cop gave him a ticket for crosswing the double yellow and I think he is going to fight it. He will have to post here to tell you all about it. He is OK though, really pissed off about it as anyone would be and depressed about his bike again as anyone would be.

Michelle and I went to the races on Sunday and had a great time, met BMW (Keith) and his daughter came and sat with us a tthe keyhole for a couple races. He is just as cool as I thought he would be and his daughter is very nice too. It was a great time. Too bad about Eric not being able to take Nicky in the Superbike race but it was a good race nonetheless.

Sounds like the overall results of this crash were pretty damn good for what might have happened!

of course the car driver would NEVER be on wrong side of road..but it is of course his word vs theirs, and being on bike the natural tendency of the courts will be to blame hte dangerous irrational and silly biker.

i hate stupid people, i cant count how many times i have had to dodge MORONS coming hte other way in MY lane....
in blind curves no less.

anyway i know how the busted foot thing goes, tell justin to make sure the docs fix it right the first time, mine's not right and hurts still after a year.

good luck on the repairs, and heal quick.

Otis, my man...
Either you are always at the wrong place, wrong time or right place, right time.
I guess if I'm going down I want someone with a level head like you riding with me, sure hope we don't find out though!
These accidents are happening way too often, glad he is okay.
P.S. Wasn't your wife pregnant several months ago??? She sure don't look like it! :-)
Hope your daughter is doing well.

Dan, I think I have some bad mojo or something. It seems that riding near me tends to make bad things happen to good people.

Yes, Michelle has lost most of the weight she gained, she retained some of it cause of the breast feeding thing, apearantly a womans body holds on to 5-10 extra pounds for the production of milk, now that she is done with that she should shed the last few quickly. Thanks for the compliment though, I'll tell her. Allison is doing awesome.

Otis,
So far I'm on a 26 day stretch with no off days in sight!
We are in an outage that will be going on until November but I WILL take some time off for the get-together. Look forward to seeing everyone. Take care,
Dan

01zx6r If you are a sort that has bad luck too it probably IS better that we don't ride together, 2 bad luck riders could mean trouble for someone. As far as Justin, I hope he is better too, I hope he contacts me to let me know what's up. I just met him the day of the races so we don't really know each other at all.
