a braking problem

i lost about 50% braking power after getting generous with cleaning fluid and WD40 which i suspect got into the calipers/pads,

i dint get much response on the org
http://www.zx-12r.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=52062&sid=d7de84974c463aa67ce8723d6a626391

i have a 05 model with 6000 road miles on it so i dont suspect the pads,

i was told to use break cleaner on the calipers and pads

i can get the pads out and clean them, but undoing the calipers may be a prob for me if it simple enuff i can do it if i have proper instruction

some help here guys

One word man, contamination once those pads soak up that WD40 they are done, you will not be able to get it off the pad, some brake clean for the rotors and new pads you will be fine. Removing the calipers is not difficult at all, its pretty easy. I do not have step by step instructions.

What were you trying to clean with WD40?

2 bolts hold on the calipers. its pretty easy. dont use oil on brakes!

thanks for the feedback maximus

i has just a few dots of rust on the disc, which i hoped would break loose with WD40, i managed to get rid of 80% of the rust and later used wd40 to clean the calipers as well...very bad idea

time to order new pads i guess....should i go with EBC?

i tried undoin the bolts that hold the caliper but they wouldnt budge!!, i think ill have to take it to a mechanic to undo it with a impact gun

there goes servicin cost

which bolts are you trying to remove? not the ones which clamp the 2 halves on the caliper together i hope...

the rear doesn't have any bolts and i've never heard of the fronts resisting removal.

I always used stock parts, but EBC brakes are very good in performance from what I understand.

EBC HH pads are a good choice for street riding......nothing wrong with stock pads if you just ride the bike normally....if you ride twisties hard you might get some fade with stock pads.....Personally I like the Braking CM55 pads.....I use those on my ZX10R on and off the track....
