Headlight Issues
I was riding my bike the other morning to work., and out of the blue I lose my headlights. Not fun when its still dark outside. Though I blew a fuse, checked fuses up top and down below. All good. Checked for power at the headlight fuse up top. No power to that fuse. Blinkers, horns, tailight, everything else works... Any thoughts on why no power to that specific fuse?

Yep look at the stator winding. There is a small wire that comes off the stator to the headlight relay. Once the stator spins it powers the relay. If the stator is fubar the relay wont trip and turn on the headlights..

Although I'm not having a headlight problem, I've decided to solder my stator/rectifier connections so I don't get stuck in the dark 200 miles from home. Does anyone know if the wires are color coded. Otherwise, what's the best way to ensure that your soldiering the right wires together. Also, the directions recommend using a heat sink. Is this really important ?
Thanks,

Forgive me here, not exactly the ASE certified wrench turner. Seems to me as long as my charging system is putting out 14 volts, and I'm getting spark to the plugs to start the motor, My stator should be working fine. This being the case, I'm assuming we are looking at the headlight relay, which I believe is mounted in the battery box. Damn, I have to get a book. I think I will try Radio Shack with for the relay. Any other suggestions is appreciated. The Kawa dealer in town broke my battery cover last week when I took it to them for a battery, Having to fight them just to replace it. later....

Its the fuse box on top of the gas tank. and you have to open it up it has four screws. i might take some pictures this weekend and try and illustrate. Since I can't take my vacation this weekend.

I lost my headlights one time going down the Interstate at about 1:00am ,pitch black out, lost all my sence of balance and feel of direction at 60 plus mph...Ended up going from the right lane all the way to the center medium strip where it was all wet grass..Wiped out big time,no physical damage to me , but bike got twisted some ....What a feeling to loose lights just like that....Not fun at all...I've checked all my fuse's and relays,lol...

i had the same problem. connector was fried together. i soldered the 3 white wires together with heat shrink, then trace it down to the relay. jumped the relay , the lights came on so i knew it was the relay(forgot the 2 wire color i think it was red with a yellow not sure though) bought a desoldering gun and desoldered the headlight relay out (single pole double throw relay 10 amp) the company who makes them only makes 12 amp now. radio shack doesnt sell that type of relay, you must order from a electronics supply store. solder it back in. and thats it. never had another prob.
