2005 motor in an '02

My friend has a 2002 that dropped a valve and really tore up the head, block, and one piston. The repair to the head will be clse to $1000.00 so it doesn't make much sense to fix it.

He is looking at a low mile 2005 engine, but the salvage yard says it won't work in his '02 due to harness differences. The only difference I am aware of is the stator wiring. Is there any other differences? Can the '05 motor be made to work in the '02?

Thanks,
Tony

I don't believe there will be a problem, I just wanted to make sure. The stator would be easy enough to swap over to the 05 motor, as long as that is the only difference.

Why would he want to do that? The 02 motor has 17,500+ miles on it, while the 05 motor has 3500. We want to use the ENTIRE motor.

as far as i know, the 05 was the hardest one to make "fast". it has the secondary throttle plates, and its a real pita to get it to break 186...

motor swap

i swapped a 01 motor too my 05 i had to change stator cam sensor and cam and computer and ignition pickup and rotor i used my injectors off the 05 supposedly bigger the bike ran like crap until i took it and had it mapped im asuming that was because of the big injectors me and a friend that works at a bike shop did the swap he was the expert so to speak it was a painful process but was not worth the effort bike only made 8 more hp and less torque with this set up i had heard the 05 motor has a beter crank really cant tell the diference between the two of them the 05 crank feels a little heavier the bike was making 174 hp wit 05 mtr and 98 ft lbs bike makes 182 now and 95 ft lbs on mrx01 same exhaust on both mtrs both stock mtrs the bike goes about 8 mph dif in the 1/4 im assuming thats due to the quickr reving 01 mtr im fixing to build the 05 motor till 1287 and put it back on see what it will due i have most all parts im debating about putting new bearings in it cause the old ones look so good
