speedo problem
I have replaced the speed sensor and the problem still exist. Every once in a while the speedo will peg out or just not work. Do you tink its the gauges itself. My truck did the same thing and was under warranty. They said it was the stepper motors in the gauge panel. I was wandering if it was the same thing.

The speed sensor puts out a pulsed signal that changes with your speed. If it failed to send these pulses that would explain the speedo not working but I can't think of any way in which a sensor failure would peg the speedo.
That and the fact you've already replaced the sensor pretty much points to it having to be a bad instrument cluster. Sorry.
I don't know how old your bike is but it sounds like a bad internal connection. Either at the connector or speedo servo. Anytime you solder a large (relative) object to circuit board in a high vibration environment you risk stress fractures in the solder joint.
It would be worth the effort of opening the thing up and reheating all the 'thru hole' connections with a soldering iron and a dab of electrical solder.

The connections shown with the two arrows have the characteristic circular fracture pattern around the pin. This fracture can be through out the entire joint and eventually totally isolate the pin from the pad. Just applying a soldering iron and a little solder will reflow the joint and fix it.
If your eyes arn't good enough to pick them out just reheat all the larger pins to be sure. Couldn't hurt and you might save yourself a couple hundred bucks.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. That would be alot easier than buying a new one.
